This place is a true gem of food and service. Nestled in the Montrose area, away from the hustle and bustle, it offers ample parking and a variety of dining options. Every time I visit, I’m consistently impressed by the quality of the food and the impeccable service. It’s an ideal spot for a private dinner or lunch, away from the formalities. Don’t miss out on Helen, the soul of this place. Her food recommendations are spot-on, and her hospitality is simply impeccable.

We started with chicken dumplings and green onion pan cakes as appetizers. For the main course, we had peppercorn chicken, chicken lo mein, and orange chicken. Each dish was delicious and came in a reasonable portion. However, the orange chicken truly stood out. It had real thin orange slices, which I absolutely loved.

This restaurant offers a nice blend of Shanghainese and Sichuanese cuisine, and while the soup dumplings are well-made and satisfying, it’s really the Sichuan dishes that keep me coming back.
The flavors are bold, authentic, and tailored to your preferences. The owner is incredibly attentive—checking in to ensure that each dish is adjusted to your taste, whether you prefer more spice, less oil, or a specific level of heat. That level of care really makes the experience stand out.
The service is excellent across the board—friendly, attentive, and consistent. If you’re a fan of Sichuan flavors with a personal touch, this place is a must-try.

Xiaolong Dumpling opened in 2024, is a small restaurant. It has limited seating outdoor too.

Food orders were made via Chowbus. Scan the QR code on your table, submit your order, and your food will be served to you.

My partner and I had the Hong Kong BBQ bao, shrimp dumplings, crystal dumplings, salt & pepper fish, soup dumplings, and signature fried rice.

The BBQ bao, which I suspect was from a frozen packet (I asked the lady, but didn’t get a straight answer from her), had a great filling with fluffy dough. The shrimp dumplings were ok, but seemed like from the frozen packet too. The crystal dumplings should have crispy bottoms, but they weren’t, which was a letdown. The salt & pepper fish could use more pepper. The signature fried rice didn’t have good flavor, and the dish could be drier to be called fried rice. The soup dumplings were good. I loved the flavorful soup inside.

I loved their packaged drinks. They were cute and easy to transport around.

Service was excellent though. I chatted with the owner, Helen and she was very friendly.

There is limited parking outside the restaurant, but there is additional parking available across the street at the paint store.

This is a rating solely for this experience and the two dishes ordered below. Food 1-2/5. Friendly staff 5/5.
I first came here during their soft opening about 1-2 years ago and was impressed by the friendly Chinese owner’s genuine passion for authentic cuisine. That made this second visit disappointing. The ambiance is still the same- casual friendly clean vibes.
Tried two chef’s specialties: the Tofu & Shrimp was decent but tasted toned down and Americanized, missing the aromatic depth of traditional preparation (also the egg tofu was replaced with general firm tofu and it’s no longer really a 铁板 iron plate dish, it was likely cooked in a wok and placed in an aluminum foil on the iron plate). The Mountain City Hot Pot was the bigger letdown—“Mountain City” refers to Chongqing, known for intensely numbing, fiery hot pot. What I got was mild, with barely any má là (numbing-spicy) punch. The broth lacked the rich, chili-laden complexity that defines the real thing. The ingredients of the hotpot were also a big let down with lots of potato, few tofu pieces, beef and some shrimp. Overall the freshness and variety of the ingredients were not satisfying.
It feels like the menu has shifted to appeal to a broader audience at the expense of authenticity. They also recently got top 100 restaurants on Yelp so I’m really happy for them and the customers that enjoy the food here. Yet you can tell this place is filled with zero Asian customers.

After having this authentic Chinese food anything else is going to suck lol the food and noodles are made by hand and you can tell! It’s authentic, delish and cozy. It’s a nice little restaurant with you scanning a QR code to order on the app and pay on there as well. I honestly really liked this versus ordering with a waiter because you can order as you eat and request drinks and other things right away. We had the eggrolls, general chicken, soup dumplings and the biangbiang noodles and we loved everything. The eggrolls are more like spring rolls so just a note that they’re not like American Chinese ones. The general chicken was huge pieces that were crispy and relishes with a less sweet than American Chinese sauce which I actually prefer the authentic sauce more. The biangbiang noodles were our favorite thing ever and we’ve never had them before but wanted to try something new. The chili oil sauce they came in and the texture of the hand pulled noodles were perfect. Highly recommend and will be coming regularly!

This was such an amazing find while visiting Houston! The food was so flavorful and came out very quickly. We ordered the bbq buns, 4 orders of soup dumplings (rainbow and pork), and the sesame balls. Helen who was the co-owner was super friendly and an amazing hostess. The ordering was via phone/qr code and it was so easy to order and pay.

10/10 would come again! Thank you again for the delicious hot food in this cold winter! (:

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful experience here!

The orange chicken was a standout — crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in the perfect balance of sweet and tangy sauce. Not overly heavy or greasy at all. And the biang biang beef noodles were incredible — chewy, hand-pulled noodles with flavorful beef and just the right amount of spice.

On top of the amazing food, the service was impeccable. Helen, our server, was especially wonderful. She’s very down to earth, attentive, and genuinely helpful. She made great recommendations. She truly made the whole dining experience even better.

Highly recommend this place if you’re craving delicious Chinese food with outstanding service. We’ll definitely be coming back!
