DELICIOUS pit beef sandwich. Initially thought “just how good can a beef sandwich be”, turns out it can be THIS good. Generous amount of beef, tender, flavorful, juicy, with awesome BBQ sauces. Place is pretty convenient and spacious, takes a bit of time for the food to be ready. Simple yet amazing meal, costs quite a bit.

Chaps Pit Beef is a Baltimore classic and a must-visit for anyone looking to experience true local flavor. Located on Mapleton Avenue with easy parking, this no-frills BBQ spot is famous for its Baltimore-style pit beef sandwiches. The beef is charcoal-grilled, thinly sliced, and piled high on fresh rolls, typically topped with raw onion and their signature horseradish tiger sauce. The result is smoky, juicy, and packed with bold flavor.
The menu goes beyond pit beef with options like turkey, ham, ribs, chicken, and classic sides such as fries, baked beans, and coleslaw. The atmosphere is casual and fast-paced, with counter service that keeps things moving. Chaps delivers exactly what it promises—authentic, satisfying BBQ that has earned its place as a Baltimore food landmark.

I founf this place on youtube. Im glad i stopped in. The menu is loaded with options. I got a chicken and rib combo and added cheese fries. The ribs were delicious. They werent fall of the the bone tender but still enjoyable. The half chicken was so good, Juicy, flavorful. My wife got the open faced turkey. She is a bit of a picky eater so she wasnt so pleased with her meal. I enjoyed mines and I would certainly visit again in a few weeks when I’m back in the area.

Chaps Pit Beef is hands down the best pit beef in Maryland! The pit beef sandwich was loaded with meat, cooked to order, and had that perfect hot coal flavor. All the sauces were great, especially the tiger sauce and house BBQ.
We also had the turkey Reuben (best my son’s ever had), the pork BBQ sandwich, gravy fries, and potato salad. Huge portions across the board. They definitely don’t skimp. Friendly, fast service too. Highly recommend!

If I was just reviewing the Pit Beef this would be a 5 star review. The sandwich was melt in your mouth delicious, especially with sliced onion and Tiger Sauce. However, the meal, with fries and a small drink, was over $21. The fries were on the soggy side, and in need of seasoning. Still, I will definitely be back for the amazing Pit Beef.

I searched for food emblematic of Baltimore for my day visit. I’m not into crab so I chose pit beef and chaps is the big name. I bought the beef pit w gravy plate with french fries. It was good. I just ate it with knife and fork. Very tasty and lots to eat. With soft drink it was about $20. I would go there next time in town and get it without the gravy.

Even though they forgot my large order of cole slaw, this place is a must visit! Juicy, delicious, and unforgettably tasty – I’m not talking about the club next door either! Haha. The food is INCREDIBLE, and the fact that it was featured on THE WIRE makes it a tourist destination that can’t be missed. 5 Stars!!!

This place was great. We were passing through from Philly to Virginia and grabbed dinner. We don’t have any charcoal type places where we’re from.
The charcoal flavor comes through and it was delicious. The girlfriend got the roast beef platter (beef over fries smothered in gravy), I got the habit sandwich (beef, Turkey, ham and cheese).
.
Everything was delicious, fast service on a Friday night at 6pm

We had been wanting to try them for quite some time, but since we live a few states away, we just haven’t. We were finally in the area and it was a must have. Man did it not disappoint! The beef is super tender and flavorful. The sausage has a little heat. The turkey was full of smokey flavor. The fries were hot and crispy. Horseradish sauce was just right. The kids loved theirs too. All in, it was wonderful and we would not hesitate to eat here again!
