Then it hit us, we’ve never done a date night at Cowboys Restaurant Gainesville , right across from the train station in Gainesville. That needed fixing.
The place was packed (always a good sign), and from the moment we walked in, we were greeted, seated, and surrounded by the kind of ambience that fits the name perfectly. Rustic, warm, and full of life. We even bumped into a few friends and got to catch up before settling in.
Crystal was our server and she crushed it, even with Mike’s famously high-maintenance needs. Speaking of coffee… we started with God’s favorite drink. He named a book after it (Hebrews). The best way to our hearts? A hot mug and a smile.
Aimee went bold with the Diablo Burger (no bun), stacked with cheese, jalapeños, bell peppers, onions, and chipotle mayo. Fries on the side. Her review? “Really really good.” That’s high praise.
Mike ordered the all-you-can-eat catfish but asked for it grilled (no gluten, no cornmeal). And they made it happen. Whoever was on the grill deserves a medal. Perfect seasoning, cooked just right. Mike even shook his hand, just didn’t catch his name. Let’s just say it was so good there are a few less catfish in the world after Mike was finished.
Every bite was excellent. Every moment felt like a win. Cowboys hit the spot on this cold evening, and we’re grateful for the team that made it happen.
Stopped in for a meal at Cowboys while it was packed—always a good sign. The wait to be seated was about ten minutes, which wasn’t bad considering how busy they were. The staff stayed friendly and on top of things.
We started with the bacon cheese fries, which were good even though they came out missing the jalapeños listed on the menu. The ranch dressing here deserves its own mention—it’s the good kind, thick and flavorful, perfect for dipping.
For entrées, the taco salad was a standout. The shell was perfectly crisp and it came loaded with fresh toppings—corn, beans, tomatoes, and cheese. I asked for ranch dressing on the side and they brought a full boat of it, which was a nice touch.
The Monte Cristo sandwich was just okay for me. It’s a very heavy, deep-fried sandwich with a thick breading—crispy and rich but a little too greasy for my taste. That said, if you’re someone who loves a big indulgent Monte Cristo, you’ll probably enjoy it more than I did.
Service was friendly, food came out a little slow but totally understandable with the crowd. Overall, Cowboys has a welcoming small-town vibe, hearty portions, and solid comfort food. I’d definitely come back, especially for breakfast or that taco salad again.
Very Very good. Friendly staff. Family vive.
Will come back to this place to eat!
