Choose-your-own, “chipotle” style serving, except with a delicious variety of hummus, greens, vegetables and sauces. I absolutely loved my experience at Hummus Republic in Isla Vista! From the moment I walked in, the staff was so welcoming and friendly — they really made me feel like a valued guest. The service was fast, everything was super clean, and the whole vibe of the place was upbeat and inviting.
The food? Incredible. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and made just the way I like it. I built my own bowl and was so impressed by how many options they had — delicious proteins, amazing sauces, and fresh toppings galore. It’s healthy, filling, and honestly addicting in the best way.
This is definitely my new go-to spot in IV. If you’re looking for something tasty, nutritious, and made with care, Hummus Republic is the place. Highly recommend!

Obsessed. Absolutely LOVED the lemon chicken. I didn’t like the shawarma as much, but it wasn’t bad by any means. I got a tonnn of toppings because it was my first time there. Extremely generous portions and not even a bad price compared to similar restaurants. Everything was delicious. Never had couscous before, now I know i like it! The warmed garbanzos are incredible. The toppings are unique and delicious. I got the kalamata hummus, harissa hummus, and the original and all of them were EXCELLENT. The kalamata is very strong in the hummus, so if you prefer a more subtle taste then I wouldn’t get too much. The lemon chicken was incredibly tender. Also got lemon + olive oil dressing as well as the jalapeño garlic tahini. Got a fried jalapeño – delicious. They filled my bowl to the brim! Overall just excellent, so many flavors.

The monitor right before entering the establishment says ORDER HERE. So we did and took a seat in the patio.
Waited about 10-15 minutes when I realized patrons were coming out with their food in hand so, I decided to check in on my order.
Inside there were a few people placing orders and a few others in line to pay. When I was addressed I asked about my order and at the same time I see an employee pulling a receipt from the wall and starts to work on it-turns out it’s my order. When I asked why my order wasn’t given a timely attention I was told because I ordered from the monitor. I was told the walk-ins take priority. My question, WHY? Why aren’t orders prepared as they come in? This information was emphasized by another male employee that came to explain to me your order will take longer if you order from the monitor. Apparently, they receive the order 5 minutes after it’s placed and their instructions are to prepare those orders after all the orders placed inside are taken care of. How does this make any sense?
-The receipt was nasty, full of food stains
-2 stars because the food does take good and the crispy chicken was hot
-larger portions because my bowl had a lot of greens and small toppings on top
-the Kalamata olives portion was as big as my sharwana chicken
Even if I were from this area I wouldn’t be returning. There should be a sign that says to order at the counter if you’d like faster service next to the monitor’s sign that say ORDER HERE.

Nice patio on the street in Isla Vista. The inside is clean and there is a bar for seating at the window. We got so much food, a $16 bowl was easily two meals for me.

First time to order, got a bowl to go. Got it home and the couscous was not cooked properly, it was hard and crunchy. Tried to call them to let them know, employees working couldn’t understand that I had a problem and tried to take my order twice before I asked for a manager. When the manager called me back she was insistent that this was a known issue, that the food was just overcooked but completely safe to eat. I asked for the bowl to be refunded as it was inedible. We ordered two other dishes that were ok, the falafel is also dry and overcooked. I don’t live in IV, returning to have the bowl remade would be very inconvenient. Manager refused said she would give a discount the next time or remake the bowl. Why would I come back? She then hung up the phone. $20 for subpar bowl that should not have been served.

The owner (?) is super nice and happy to explain things and recommend different options. Food is so fresh and flavorful! Mediterranean is one of my faves and this is pretty much the only place in SB that you can get an affordable delicious authentic Mediterranean meal. Yay!
