I was recommended Sapporo by my neighbor when I first moved into town about four years ago. Coming from a major city with countless affordable and high quality sushi options, I was not sure what to expect. While Sapporo is definitely on the pricier side, it has become something my family and I consider a special treat and it is always worth it.

Over the years I have tried a wide variety of items here including sushi, sashimi, raw dishes, chicken katsu, and bibimbap. Everything is consistently fresh and beautifully prepared when dining in, though I will say that when I have ordered food to go, especially non-sushi dishes like the chicken katsu or bibimbap, they have not been quite as good as enjoying them in the restaurant. For me, the dine-in experience is where Sapporo really shines.

What truly makes this place stand out is the owner, Nikki. She has proven herself to not only be an excellent business owner, but also a genuinely kind person. Nikki always goes above and beyond to make sure her guests are taken care of, and she is more than accommodating with adjustments based on preference. That personal touch makes every visit feel welcoming and memorable.

Sapporo feels like a true hidden gem in town. It is not the kind of place you would expect to find here, and yet it continues to impress with both the quality of the food and the warmth of the service. The only small thing I have noticed is that the tables can sometimes feel a little tight, but that is not really something within their control and it has never taken away from the experience.

I am so glad my neighbor introduced me to it, and I recommend it to anyone looking for outstanding sushi paired with genuine hospitality.

Me and my fiance had such an excellent experience here! We are not from this town so what seemed to be a quick trip for some food turned into one of the best parts of the night! The Lady working was so sweet, silly and kind to us and seemed to love her job. The food was fantastic! Highly recommend! We will be back if we ever come back to Waynesboro!

We had a delicious dining experience. The Bibimbap and the Bulgogi was absolutely amazing. My husband hasn’t stopped raving about the Sushi. And if the meal was good enough, the owner Nikki Lee was an absolute pleasure to meet. It felt like having dinner at a good friend’s home. We will definitely be making this a regular meal.

The food quality and presentation at Sapporo are excellent — everything is fresh, well prepared, and plated beautifully.

What really sets this place apart, though, is the service. The reception and hospitality from the owner, Nikki, are outstanding and make you feel genuinely welcome from the moment you walk in. That personal touch elevates the entire experience.

Highly recommend for both the food and the atmosphere.

Need I say more? Just look at the caramelization on that carrot and the sear on those scallops! Every dish ordered is a balance of flavor and art. Connors Roll is a mus-try, and the beef rolled asparagus is just as hearty as those scallops.
Nikki and the team are always so hospitable and welcoming, and make this place about the food and hospitality. We are local but would drive an hour plus for this-come give this a try you DMV folks!

Sapporo is easily the best restaurant in the area, and it’s not even close. On our most recent visit, we had age-dashi tofu, steamed gyoza dumplings with beef, salmon teriyaki, and Nabe Yaki Udon Soup with tempura on the side. What a feast! Highly recommended if you’re in the area. Polite and attentive service, too. Always a great experience.

This place is incredible. I highly recommend the fried gyoza to start. La/nyc/nashville food junkie approved. Do not skip this spot! Nikki and her staff are on point.

*First visit in Waynesboro.* (We spent a day trip in the area while we were attending a conference in Gettysburg, PA.) We goggled best place for lunch in the area and Sapporo was top on the list Goggle did not lead us wrong.
Wow, what a fantastic dining experience! We were able to dine-in for lunch before they closed at 2:30pm. We started with the Avocado Bomb and Jalapeno Bomb for appetizers. My partner was not a fan of avocados until now. The avocado bomb transformed his palet so much so he ordered a second.we also shared the Gop-dol Bi-bim-bap which comes with the fried egg on top. Our meal was so delicious. But on top of it was the connection and conversation we made with the owner, Niki (sp?). What a beautiful soul and a gift to the Waynesboro community. We look forward to returning again for a delicious meal and enjoying the wonderful service she brings. So many great selections on the menu. Thank you again Niki.

We ordered a variety of dishes including Crispy Udon, Tuna Roll, Spicy California Roll, and a Rainbow Roll. The food and service were just okay, not particularly impressive but not bad either. One notable omission was that they didn’t provide wasabi with the rolls, which is something most sushi places typically do.

One major downside was the pricing; I felt it was overpriced for the quality and portions we received. However, what truly made the experience unpleasant was the atmosphere. The chairs were uncomfortable and the tables were small, making it difficult to enjoy the meal comfortably.

The restaurant was quite dark, almost giving the impression that they were trying to hide something. Additionally, the air conditioning seemed to be malfunctioning as it was very humid inside. One lady at a nearby table was fanning herself the entire time, which was a clear indicator of the uncomfortable conditions.

If the atmosphere had been better, I would have rated the restaurant much higher. Unfortunately, the discomfort significantly overshadowed the meal. I hope they address these issues, as it has the potential to be a much better dining experience.
