The kindest couple you’ll ever meet runs this charming little shop. They’re incredibly knowledgeable about their wines and charcuterie, guiding me expertly despite my limited knowledge beyond my taste preferences. I had a wonderful experience and left with a delightful selection of wines, meats, and cheeses.

So glad I made it back. Love the location since the move from Pleasant. Thank you so much individual attention and allowing me to opine (snore). Shropshire Blue was tremendous and made the cheese board a home run. As far as blue cheese is concerned I have to say it’s a tie between that and Roquefort. See you soon will be back with my 86 year old mum in tow

We live in Oklahoma, but if we’re in New England, this is our Wine shop. One of the best curated selections of French, Spanish, Portugal, and Italian wines we’ve seen in one place. Then there’s the cheese and the chocolates and the beers and the cider and all of the other wonderful things they have to offer. It’s locally owned locally operated by the nicest folks make this one of your stops if you’re anywhere near

My love letter to Grand Trunk Wine & Cheese.
As someone who comes from a fine dining and luxury hospitality background, I’ve walked into a lot of wine shops. Some dazzle with labels, others with architecture, but very few have what Grand Trunk Wine & Cheese in Newbury, Massachusetts has: Soul.
From the moment I stepped through the door, I felt it: that rare blend of warmth, care, and true expertise that can’t be faked. Angela and Jeremy are A1. Their kindness and knowledge come across not with fanfare, but with grace. Within 15 minutes (that’s all the time I had) I knew I’d found something special.
The shop itself is small, but beautifully curated. Every bottle and wedge of cheese feels intentionally chosen, not just for flavor or region, but for story. It’s clear Angela and Jeremy aren’t just stocking shelves — they’ve been to these places. They understand that a wine isn’t just a grape in a bottle, it’s a conversation with the soil, the climate, the winemaker’s hands. They respect that conversation deeply, and in doing so, invite you into it.
Their range of offerings is incredibly approachable, whether you’re stopping in for a casual weeknight wine or something more elevated, the focus remains consistent: quality, authenticity, and heart. And here’s what really stood out: they’re not salespeople. There’s no pressure. No pitch. No agenda. Just a genuine desire to match you with something you’ll love. That’s rare.
To those who have left one-star reviews…I’ll say this kindly but firmly: those words feel far from the truth I experienced. It’s a shame when small, family-run businesses, the very ones that shape the culture and charm of a town, are targeted by careless or baseless criticism. We should all be more mindful of the pen we carry and how we use it. Words have weight.
Angela and Jeremy strike me as the kind of people who would bend over backwards to make things right if something ever went wrong. But honestly? This place doesn’t need fixing. It needs celebrating.
So here’s my honest recommendation:
Stop reading this… and just Go. Walk in with curiosity. Tell them what you love, or simply why you’re there. If you’re unsure, they’ll guide you. If you’re confident, they’ll trust you.
Either way, you’ll walk out with something beautiful and likely want to stay longer next time.
This is what a small-town wine and cheese shop should feel like. No notes. Just gratitude.
You’ve earned a loyal customer.

We live in Newburyport during the winter months. Can’t say enough good things about Angela and Jeremy. They have always made recommendations for wine at different price points and have never tried to “oversell” us. Plus their charcuterie choices are fantastic. A great experience!

After browsing and looking at wines with no prices Most of the wines were not priced. The four of us kept saying to each other how much is this wine but the two employees never approached us or asked if they could help. Should have known when we saw the$50 Bernie mittens for sale. Thanks for the great service!

I called on a recent Sunday searching for canned snails and discovered they were closed. Imagine my surprise when the owner called me back on Monday, also a day off for them! I mentioned what I was looking for and after saying that I wasn’t interested in coming in the next day because there was a Nor’easter in the forecast, Angela offered to meet me at the store after picking up her daughter from school. Did I mention it was her day off from work?!? I left with plenty of snails in tow, as well as a beautiful baguette and some raw cow’s milk cheese from France. I’ve lived in the Newburyport area since the early 80’s and while there are stores in town that carry “this” or “that” where cheeses, wine, and specialty foods are concerned, this a one stop shop that I’m glad to have rediscovered. I’ll be back real soon during business hours to browse all their offerings! Thanks for your kindness, Angela!

In Newburyport for a weekend family gathering and we were so fortunate to fine Grand Trunk! We checked out all the local food/wine spots and this was by far the best. The owners helped us with selecting the perfect wines and we built a magnificent charcuterie board. Then they provided tips to guide us to local spots for the balance of our dining needs. Really made our trip special. They also have a very talented singer/songwriter daughter, Eloise Kirkpatrick. Check her out on Spotify.
