My favorites were the dal makhani (rich, creamy, and full of that slow-cooked flavor) and the mixed vegetable—perfectly spiced and super satisfying. The veggie pulao was another standout: tasty, hot, and genuinely fresh, not like it had been sitting around. And the real star for me was the butter naan—served hot and crispy, brushed with butter, and I swear I caught a little cilantro on there too. Honestly, I could’ve eaten that naan by itself and been happy.
If you’re in the mood for a relaxed Indian buffet with great vegetarian choices and a few dishes that seriously deliver, India Taj Palace is a must.
Just wish they had refills on tea or other drinks
Indian food was so delicious and fresh.
I had high expectations after seeing 4.2 ratings (at the time while writing this review) for India Taj Palace, but my experience was below average. The food was not as flavorful or fresh as I hoped — most dishes tasted reheated rather than freshly prepared. The naan was dry, chicken tikka was dry and hard and the curry lacked the rich spices typical of authentic Indian cuisine.
Service was also quite slow, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time. The staff were polite but seemed inattentive. The overall atmosphere felt a bit neglected.
Service was top notch and we got all the attention for the à la carte order we placed. The buffet was decent with some vegetarian dishes done better than others. I wish they covered the dishes to avoid the curry surfaces from drying up. Fresh naans (breads) served were the highlight as they were done just right. Overall a decent place to eat.
Sorry, no pics – was so hungry I devoured it.
Was craving Indian food and grateful this was open on Memorial Day Monday.
Food/Buffet: I tried chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, saag curry, korma, vegetable samosa, tandoori chicken, goat curry (not pictured), garlic naan (not pictured), and desserts including mango custard and gulab jamun and kheer. All savory items except goat curry and mint chutney tasted undersalted with very minimal masala, which is surprising for an Indian buffet restaurant. The goat curry was the best!! Desserts didn’t blow me away but I did try a bite of the three mentioned above and liked mango custard the most.
Price: $15.99 plus tax and tip
Not sure I’d come back for the buffet but perhaps for a la carte goat curry I might return!
Service is excellent as are the real plates, metal silverware, and real cloth napkins. I always eat way too much here, just can not help it, the food is that good.
If I had any complaint it would be the Tandor Chicken, it was still very good, but for some reason it was not of the same high quality of the rest of the buffet. Might be just me? All this food for less than $12, quite a deal for lunch.
This restaurant rates 5 out of 5 to me. I feel it’s the best I’m San Antonio . Well done!
