To start, the tortillas were hot and soft and a great appetizer. The service was great and everyone here was very attentive.
We had steaks which were perfectly cooked and very choice cuts. The medium rare was a little well done so I will order rare next time. The noise level is loud but that was due to all the birthday parties. At least everyone here is having a great time (including us).
Must do for a lazy weekend.
Outdoor bar – dog friendly!
That said, the menu is very limited for those who do not eat meat. Vegetarian options were minimal, and there were no fish or seafood options available, which made it challenging for guests with dietary preferences or restrictions. Expanding the menu to include a few well-thought-out vegetarian and fish dishes would make this restaurant more inclusive and appealing to a wider range of diners.
Additionally, while the dining area itself was pleasant, more attention could be given to cleanliness—specifically under the tables. A more thorough sweep between seatings would noticeably elevate the overall dining experience.
Overall, Culpepper Cattle Co. has a lot going for it in terms of food quality, service, and atmosphere. With a bit more attention to menu diversity and detail in cleanliness, it could easily move from a good experience to a great one.
Topped up beautiful dinner with Handels ice cream
We ordered calamari for an appetizer, the a 10oz sirloin (med-rare) – my husband was thoroughly impressed with the perfectly crusted top, and like-butter innards.
I ordered the wagyu & cheddar sausage (which was good) and chicken breast – grilled top perfection. The hubby’s Mac was fine but my sweet potato was impressively scrumptious! Not too sweet, piping hot with cinnamon butter (I believe). Salads landed solidly as well, with what tasted like freshly made croutons.
We took home our dessert, which Amy recommended: brownie with toasted marshmallows – it’s portioned for three & so Yummy. (I only had a couple of bites). 10 out of 10. I’d certainly recommend! Cool Deep Ellum location!
See y’all again soon!
Our server “D” went above and beyond to make it a pleasant experience by suggesting his favorite dishes and explaining the stories behind every recipe and origin of the food. One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Stand out dishes: fried green tomatoes, cowboy cigars, Cadillac fajitas, steak Cobb, monkey bread dessert.
Although I enjoyed our server, Caroline, I do question whether she was part of the problem or if it was the bartenders or cooks.
Each cocktail took about 45 minutes to come out. Keep in mind, it was a Sunday night with minimal tables. My meal was also not entered correctly, so I had to wait an additional 20 minutes while the rest of my party had already been served. This was not my fault and reflected a lack of urgency on their end.
At one point in the evening, I overheard Caroline speaking to the manager about how difficult our experience had been, even though we had not directly expressed any concerns. We actually felt embarrassed for her. My friend group ultimately felt that this was more of a management issue, especially since the manager was extremely dismissive about our delayed food.
No one really knew how bothered we were, aside from the awkward energy that may have come across in conversation. If you were to ask Caroline about our order, number 256, I could almost guarantee she would say our entire party was a loss for the night. The group seemed embarrassed, and they comped one of our meals, likely because they could see the frustration in our faces.
We did not enjoy our meals. The steak had no seasoning and was charred on the outside, even though it was cooked medium rare. I genuinely mean it when I say this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in Dallas, and I have tried quite a few places here.
They ruined my friend’s engagement dinner and barely addressed the situation. I will thank Caroline for having the emotional intelligence to attempt to fix what she could. However, based on conversations I overheard from management and others, it truly felt like no one cared about our experience, even though we were each paying over $100 for our meals.
Overall, I would not recommend this place. If you do go, maybe try the fajitas, as my friends did not complain about the Tex-Mex options. I am extremely disappointed and even more saddened that I have to write this out just to receive a real response from corporate or management.
