A Northern RI hidden surprise. We started with clam chowder and onion soup. The chowder was loaded with clams and flavor. The onion soup was very good.
If you are craving roast beef head to tavern on main. The tavern cut was a generous cut of tender, juicy and flavorful beef. It is accompanied by a house salad , veg and oven roasted potatoes. The pot roast was equally as good and if you are craving a burger just ask even though it’s not on the menu!!! Atmosphere is quaint New England. A little updating could be a positive move. First time and coming back to try one of the specials like haddock top with lobster Hallandale sauce.

Was here with some reenactors for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is very historic and great, the services impeccable and the young lady was a delight and did such a good job. I had the French Onion Soup, very good, lots of Cheese, very tasty. The Seafood Alfredo, very good, done to perfection with lots of chunks of shrimp, lobster, scallops and crab. Finished with a cheesecake with strawberries and blueberries and asked for some ice cream on top, which was generously added. That, was perhaps the tastiest item I had and certainly memorable. Will be back soon with friends again.

4 stars but room for improvement.
The food has been wonderful. Salads a bit on the smaller side, but the house dressing was tasty. The main portions have been amazing but side sides have not been anything to brag about.
The furniture was falling apart, BUT it is old. They forgot my drink for a long while I had to ask again. The pot roast came out cold in some spots…
The environment is awsome to look at BUT could be spruce up somehow… and the music in dining room was sooo loud i really noticed it…
Good location. Historical building. Good desert and prime rib.

I have going here for years and I have given several “second chances”. The food portions have decreased substantially. Today I ordered the 20oz (King Cut) and it was the portion of a Tavern Cut 14oz. This has become the norm. Charge for a King Cut and provide a Tavern Cut while at the same time having signs up that they have to increase the price of the prime rib due to the cost of beef. Maybe this is just a bait and switch tactic on take out orders. By the time you bring it home its too late. Do better people.

My husband and I decided to have dinner here on Halloween. The restaurant is in an historic tavern and stories of paranormal activity adds to its charm. I called to make reservations for 5:30 at 1:35 which was never recorded. Luckily it was not busy and we got right in. Our server was lovely and very attentive, possessing every quality needed for a great dining experience. The food fell short of providing that great dining experience. My husband ordered the large prime rib medium rare. He could barely cut into the meat. It did not lack in flavor but it appeared to be old meat heated up. Generous size cut but very tough to chew and definitely on the over cooked side. I had baked stuff shrimp and ate two of the four shrimp. Something was off in the taste and I stopped eating. We did explain (and showed) to our server how tough the meat was to cut but neglected to mention the shrimp dish. She did not charge us for the prime rib ($40) which was totally unexpected and extremely appreciated. As I am writing this, I am having waves of stomach cramps and hoping it will pass by morning. Their menu offers some great dinner options and we are willing to give it another try. It was hopefully just an off night.

First time there was 11/22/2025. I can’t find anything to complain about. Service great. Food great. Atmosphere great. I requested a particular brand of scotch. They were out, ok no big deal. The hostess went down the road and got a bottle for me. Who does that. I will rate this place as exceptional. Not fancy but truly off the charts great.

WE (My friends and my wife and myself) have been coming here for years for dinners and more importantly THANKSGIVING DINNER. We were seated were we like and the waitress was fantastic! BUT, the turkey breast was no longer real but processed :{ . They eliminated the corn bread and no longer give you dessert 🙁 . And they raised the price saying prices were so far up, while the price (according to national and regional prices were down). I’m sorry but I’m calling “shenanigan’s”. After many years, I don’t know if we will be going back. As a side note the Thanksgiving dinner used to come with cornbread AND desert and the price went up (I think) and no dessert for us 🙁 .

My husband and I won a gift certificate to Tavern on Main, and we decided to go last night and try it out. What a great time we had. Mike was our server and what an amazing one he was! The tavern made a great choice when they hired Mike!
We inquired about the ghostly history of the restaurant built in the 1700’s, and as busy as it was last night, Mike took the time to speak with us, and invite us back to share one of the three days they will be hosting a ghost dinner complete with a host who will be sharing the history of this amazing place.
Thank you Mike, and thank you Tavern on Main! The food was fantastic! I had the baked stuffed shrimp, and my husband had the surf and turf! I had a taste of the steak, and it was seasoned to perfection. As for my stuffed shrimp, I found large pieces of lobster in the stuffing and it was the best I’ve ever had!

Chepachet’s historic charm is perfectly complemented by this must-visit spot. The building itself is full of character, and the dining experience lives up to its setting. I can’t recommend the surf and turf enough—it was not only excellent but also reasonably priced. A standout feature for me was the self-serve bread station, which I thought was a nice touch. The service was exceptional; my drink was never empty, and the staff was incredibly attentive.
