Prawn shrimp roll, flat noodles and green beans were excellent. Yellow curry was on the sweet side and had too many corn kernels. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
My family and I stumbled upon Bungalow on Rose, an incredible spot in Old Town Danville for a Veteran’s Day lunch, and we absolutely fell in love. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant gave off this wonderfully warm, home-like vibe, which was matched by truly excellent, attentive service. This is the kind of place you feel instantly comfortable in. Our hostess was Angie and she was amazing in recommending the dishes and provided us with a lot of background story of the origins of the dishes!
We started with a trio of appetizers, each one fantastic:
* Curry Fries with Braised Wagyu Beef: Absolutely amazing! The fries were warm and crispy, perfectly complemented by the tender Wagyu and the addition of beans. This is a must-try starter.
* Fresh Vegetable Spring Rolls: These were beautifully prepared, tasting incredibly fresh with an amazing presentation that made them look as appetizing as they tasted.
* Blistered Garlic Green Beans: A perfect side–they were crunchy, had a wonderful texture, and were tossed in an amazing sauce with layers of flavor.
For our main courses, we ordered from the special lunch menu, and everything was a hit:
* My son devoured the Red Curry Beef with Eggplant, which he declared “great” and loved every bite.
* My wife’s Jumbo Prawns with kabocha squash, basil, tamarind, and red curry was really yummy. The prawns were noticeably fresh and cooked just right.
* I had the Pan-Roasted Salmon Fillet with grilled vegetables, kaffir lime leaves, and red curry. The salmon itself was baked fine, but the combination of the ingredients made the dish an overall winner–the flavors were vibrant and complex.
* The only small critique came from my friend, who got the BBQ Pork Ribs. While they were nice, they were slightly harder (less tender) than expected.
For Dessert we tried the following items and they were divine:
* Sweet Mango with pea flower infused sticky rice- this was amazing specially the rice was warm
* Coconut Cake with pudding that is a local Esaan Province special dish- this was just too good.
We washed it all down with couple Beers and a classic Thai Iced Tea, which was good and refreshing.
Overall, we loved everything about this place. The atmosphere makes you want to stay all afternoon, and the thoughtful preparation of the food really shines through. Highly recommend stopping by this Old Town gem!
I got the corn fritters as well, those were pretty good.
The food was hot, very fresh, the service was excellent, I got takeout.
I won’t be coming here again.
I discovered Bungalow on Rose in August 2024 and have returned monthly ever since. Angie and her team are warm, attentive, and make every guest feel special, whether for a date night, family dinner, or gathering with friends.
Housed in a charming bungalow-style home, this former Michelin Guide-recognized Thai House keeps its classic Thai décor while adding a stylish mini bar and a serene garden patio for al fresco dining in Danville. Indoor seating is cozy, and parking is available on Rose Street or in a lot behind the restaurant.

Final Thoughts
Bungalow on Rose offers the best homestyle Thai food in Danville with elevated presentation. Angie’s hospitality and thoughtfully prepared dishes make every visit memorable. Whether dining inside or in the garden patio, you’ll leave satisfied and eager to return.
I recently dined at this Thai restaurant in the Bay Area, and unfortunately, the experience was far from satisfactory. Here’s a breakdown of our meal:
Salmon Fillet in Yellow Curry
– The salmon was poorly prepared, lacking the crisp texture one would expect from a well-cooked fillet.
– The yellow curry sauce was overly sweet, missing the complex flavors typical of Thai cuisine.
– There was an absence of balance in the dish, with no discernible Thai spices or aromatics.
Mango Salad
– The salad was excessively sweet, overpowering any other flavors.
– We had to request salt and lemon to attempt to balance the taste.
– The dish lacked the fresh, vibrant quality expected from a Thai mango salad.
Stir-Fried Vegetables with Spicy Basil
– The vegetables appeared to have been pre-cooked and reheated, resulting in a droopy, unappetizing texture.
– There was no crispness to the vegetables, suggesting they had been prepared well in advance.
– The dish lacked any discernible spice or basil flavor, a far cry from the bold tastes Thai cuisine is known for.
Overall Impression
This restaurant seems to be the antithesis of what Thai food represents. Thai cuisine is renowned for its complex, layered flavors and aromatic spices. However, every dish we tried was bland, lacking in authentic Thai taste, and seemed to rely heavily on sweetness rather than a balanced flavor profile.
The only redeeming aspect of our visit was the service. Our server was exceptionally kind, sweet, and accommodating. Unfortunately, her excellent service couldn’t make up for the kitchen’s shortcomings.
In conclusion, I would describe this place as a “graveyard of Thai food in the Bay Area.” It’s a severe disappointment for anyone seeking authentic, flavorful Thai cuisine. I cannot recommend this restaurant and would advise Thai food enthusiasts to look elsewhere for a genuine culinary experience.
