Unassuming restaurant offering fried chicken, catfish & other Southern fare in a petite dining room.
Truth Reveals
Didn’t get to make it in today for the last day. We planned to attend to celebrate our 6 year anniversary, but got into town too late , but we enjoyed the food and wished we had more time to enjoy Sascees. Surely enjoyed the catered event at my husband’s PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT in Hewitt recently. That fried chicken, them greens, and Mac and Cheese was bomb! And that banana pudding was so rich!

The cabbage was delicious, and the mashed potatoes with gravy was good, but unfortunately the fried chicken wasn’t crispy and the stewed okra was a little spicy. It’s a buffet, so you go to the back to the buffet to order, then eat, then pay at the counter by the door.

The food was too good that I didn’t get any photos. The salt and pepper on the table weren’t and didn’t need to be touched. I am only ever traveling through Waco for medical stuff so the joy of well cooked veggies in particular was appreciated. I just wish my mom was with me because she would’ve liked it even more than me.

This is the first review I have ever written. It’s set up like a buffet but you are served the meat/s and vegetables of the day. Don’t expect to order what you want. You get whatever they decided is the option for the day. By the way, the collard greens were bland, the pintos were over seasoned, and the sweet tea came with lemon flavoring already added. I like the option to not add lemon. I really wish this would have been more positive and I had high hopes being a southerner. I expected so much more.

Awesome Southern hospitality! We came in soon after they opened and they greeted us warmly…like family. Go go to the back, where the buffet is and one of the fine Southern gentlemen will serve you.
Boss lady got the 1 meat, the fried chicken, (all size meat dishes comes with 3 sides), mashed potatoes, stewed cabbage, and squash. They brought us some warm cornbread, and I asked for butter. She handed me a small bowl of melted butter…I think I love her!!! I had the 3 meat, with smoked ribs, baked chicken, and neck bone. Sides were the cabbage, carrots and spinach. The neck bone was my favorite! Had a butter cake and fresh peach cobbler for dessert…very delicious!

When traveling, I’m always looking for the sometimes hidden or unknown treasures. This place is definitely a treasure! Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by friendly service and smiles. Soft jazz was playing and the tables were decorated as this was Mother’s Day weekend. The aroma of fresh homemade cooking filled the air. We were seated quickly and service was prompt. I ordered the baked chicken, homemade red beans and cabbage. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Probably the best baked chicken I have ever had. The meal was complete after trying their fresh peach cobbler! Dee-licious! Stop by, say hello, and stay for some homemade southern cooking!

First time visiting this place, and I was impressed. The food is well seasoned, affordably priced (especially in this economy) and portions were enough for me to take some home. This is a can’t go wrong spot.

We found this little gem through search of best restaurants near me. It came up in the top 5 and we had a craving for home style cooking. We drove over and at first we drove right past it looking for a place to park. We circled the block and found a spot right at the door. If it is busy you will probably need to park curbside. On Sunday, they do a service line and you tell the gentleman what meat and sides you want. He piles it on so bring your appetite. We got the fried chicken, yams, mashed potatoes, red beans and rice. It was all very tasty. The owner came over and greeted us and we had a very pleasant discussion. The servers were smiling and friendly. They were also serving mustard greens, cabbage, mac & cheese, meat loaf, and ox tails. For awhile we were the only Anglo’s in the place but we were welcomed like family. The owner thanked us for coming in to her little place and asked us to come back. I would like to go back on a Friday because they serve BBQ and fried catfish in the serving line.

This place was indeed southern comfort food. Had the 1 entree 2 sides picked the smothered pork chop with cabbage and squash it was super satisfying and well seasoned. My sister had the beef bones and brocolli chz rice casserole and potatoes it was also super tasty. Atmosphere was inviting and server did a wonderful job showing us how to order since we were new to the place. The desert was plate licking yumm shared the pound cake. We probably gained a few pounds after we left. I recommend this place hands down. Owner was present and super sweet. Check them out!

The service was 5/5, and the food was great. I loved the way that I was treated. The portion sizes were good, and I enjoyed everything that I ate. I hope to return on one of my next visits to Waco.
The skin on the fried chicken was delicious, and the banana pudding was wonderful. The banana pudding had a unique look.
