I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Sakai Japanese Bistro in Troy, Ohio! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The hibachi show was both entertaining and expertly done, and the food? Out of this world.
The steak and lobster were cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Easily some of the best I’ve ever had. And don’t get me started on the Volcano Roll—a must-try for any sushi lover! It was the highlight of our sushi order!
Sakai combines great food, an inviting atmosphere, and outstanding service for an all-around amazing dining experience. I give them a 9.5 out of 10 and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing. I had a very fun night out with the wife. We ordered nigiri and some sashimi. We then had the salmon steak and shrimp Hibachi. So delicious and very much fast service with polite people at every step. Always will return here.

My family and I have been going to Sakai for the 10 years we’ve lived in Troy and have always had incredible food and service. We’ve tried other sushi places in the surrounding areas and we always come back to Sakai. We probably go once a month and the staff is always kind and a few of the regulars remember us and stop to catch up! I highly encourage all to give it a try.

We went for the hibachi and were so disappointed. Absolutely no interaction from the chef until he left when he said “enjoy”. When you go for hibachi you go for the experience and it was awful. It felt very uncomfortable just watching him cook with no interaction. The food was ok, but overpriced- I’m sure because you also pay for the experience. My lobster tail was way overcooked and they didn’t even provide a knife for me to be able to cut it. My husband got sushi and they didn’t even give him a napkin. They also talked him into trying their special-A5 wagyu steak roll- and it was slimy and not appealing at all. We would’ve gotten way better food at a regular Chinese place, but actually came solely for the experience- that we didn’t even get.

We were looking for a good sushi restaurant while out running some errands in Troy and decided to stop in. The inside is clean, organized and neat. We were seated right away for lunch, but it wasn’t busy. We ordered a tempera roll a California roll, egg, crab and tuna sushi. All sushi was delicious. The individual sushi was very nicely sized. They provided regular soy and lower salt soy on the tables. We ordered a diet soda and tea and those were also cold and large sized. The price of the meal was reasonable. We will be back.

Just what I needed. This establishment has it all. The ambiance, the excellent customer service and the delicious cuisine. I tried the spicy tuna roll: fresh and tasty. I also ordered spring rolls which were crispy and hot. Great flavor. I had the noodles which was a new taste for me as the broth was a bit sweet. Suggested by the server and I’m thankful for it. Received a $5 coupon for next visit with my bill. Great birthday lunch and I will be back soon! (Shown is my daughters bento box as well)

We went for a Hibachi dinner. It was 6:30pm, and we were the only 3 people there eating Hibachi. I think I know why. There was absolutely no interaction between the chef and the 3 of us. The only words he spoke were when he finished and said “thank you.” We took my uncle for his 80th birthday, and I told the cook and nothing was said or done. Not one word spoken until the end. When you go to Hibachi, you go for the experience and it was the worst experience ever. The food did taste good but overall experience, just bad. I would never recommend this place for Hibachi.

I was very surprised at how fresh and tasty this sushi was in the middle of Ohio. You can tell that the chefs are trained and know what they are doing. Delicious! A highlight from my visit to Troy. Thank you!

I had a better experience then when I tried it last year since under new ownership. You can read that review on Tripadvisor. My ex said he went to give the Katsu Curry a try a few days ago and it was much better. I went with him today cause he went to eat more. They had small and medium sushi rolls half price. It was nice to see they were open on a Sunday. The rolls were small (cute). I got the california roll and dream roll. I also got takoyaki. ❤ i think maybe some of the prices of some things went up a little but it was worth it this time.

We visited Troy recently and had dinner at Sakai for the first time in many years. I’m happy to say, we were not disappointed. We ordered an assortment of appetizers for our group of 5. Hot items (spring rolls and crab rangoon) were still hot from the fryer. The sushi was very nicely done. All of the appetizers were delicious. For dinner I had the chicken teriyaki bento box and all of it was amazing, with my favorite being the small assortment of tempura items (2 shrimp and some veggies). I highly recommend visiting Sakai when you are in the Troy area, though I would warn you, this is not an inexpensive place. Personally, I cannot wait to return.
