Food was tasty, very unique choices for a cafeteria style lunch. Paid more than say a regular diner serving the regular style food but the variety is there and they had many vegan choices. Sitting outside is nice. Inside not so much as the tables are in the travel area from the corridor to the restaraunt and the restaurant to the outside area. Some corral ropes would go along way to improving the flow so that people aren’t walking by or standing next to as you eat.

First timer at the NEBG and we were hungry when we arrived. Two salads were ordered and one slice of pizza. The salads were filling and the pizza slice which seemed like a deep, was filling also. The Raspberry Lemonade was Great and Loved the face it was Free Refills. The prices were reasonable to Applebee’s. We sat outside which was a great atmosphere and very clean.

A farm to table spot nestled right inside the Botanic Garden. You’d think things would be run a bit smoother.

A friend and I stopped here before wandering the garden. I tried their grilled vegetarian sandwich with goat cheese and beets. The flavors were…interesting.

My friend has a gluten sensitivity and inquired about making some changes to a few of the items on the menu. The young girl operating the register said almost everything is pre-made so they can’t make any changes to it.

They had a self check out kiosk for simpler things like salads and a few of their sandwiches, but everyone trying to use the kiosk got frustrated and ended up back in line anyways. Which was beyond long and moving at a snails pace. Imagine standing in line with people getting far to close to you after walking around outside in 93 degree weather. Yeah… pleasant right?

The outside patio area was nice to sit at, and the menu was pretty hearty with a lot of vegetarian options. I don’t foresee going back at any time, however.

The turkey fontina sandwich was like a jar of mayo with some fontina cheese I could not taste and some sliced processed turkey. The processed turkey was cold, despite it being called a hot sandwich. I couldn’t taste the fontina cheese. The mayo was supposed to be spicy and wasn’t. And it must have been premade and heated with a microwave convection oven because it was ready in a minute. The $16 portion (before tax) was small. It came with chips instead of a salad.

So let’s summarize: no taste, small portion, cooked poorly and cold, pre-made, processed and unhealth. I wouldn’t feed this food to my dog.

The drink choices looked equally bad. The wine was cheap and overpriced.

Have we no food standards and this is somehow acceptable?

I am a long time member of Tower Hill and have seen cafe vendors come and go. This latest iteration is the worst: looks like cafeteria style but is ordering at a cash register, small portions of meh sandwiches at premium prices, $9. for a can of beer, buzzers so YOU can pick up the food, tiny bags chips (.5 oz), and I know this will cause a ruckus – country music to accompany your pricey food. I’ve been to a few very nice botanical gardens around this country and I’ve never heard country music at their cafes- until now. NEBG needs to have a chat with this vendor.

I rarely leave reviews, but between the high prices and the extremely mediocre food I wanted to give my own warning and recommend visitors to the beautiful NEBG bring their own lunch, or maybe check out a restaurant in town. I got a tuna melt for a whopping $15, which was two halves of an English muffin with tuna salad, sliced tomato, and barely melted cheese on top. It was edible, but certainly not worth paying more than $8 for. My friend got chicken tenders, which were rubbery and tasteless (and I’ve rarely met a chicken strip I didn’t like). The atmosphere of the cafe was very cute, with large windows and plenty of seating (granted it was 40 degrees and raining). I hope they can step up their game because it would be so nice to have a decent cafe to go with the amazing garden!

Absolutely love this place! A wonderful place to eat while you explore the Garden. My favorite is the chicken salad cranberry walnut sandwich. There are great 1/2 sandwich + soup deals, and there’s something for everyone here. Definitely recommend stopping by, whether you’re visiting the Garden or not.

My first visit here in late 2016 was great. Excellent salad and decent service. I took a friend a few months later, and it was not so great. Service was minimally attentive, so it took a while to send back the lukewarm soup I was served. A replacement soup was delivered and the waitress disappeared again, so it took a while to send back the second serving of lukewarm soup. You might think someone would have checked the temperature the second time, but no. Not wanting food poisoning, the second serving got sent back and there was no third. Had a flat bread pizza that was good but not great. My dining companion had a grilled cheese with bacon, which looked fine but at $10 for a slightly dressed up grilled cheese, served with absolutely nothing else, not even a few greens, it seemed overpriced. Maybe this place needs an inspection. They aren’t keeping food at safe temperatures, based on my experience.

Very limited menu. My portabello melt was mostly cold when served. Staff warmed it further, which helped a little. Still, not worth $14 for reheated portabello caps on a dry English muffin, with a meager sprinkling of cheese.
