Seriously the best fish & chips we’ve ever had! My first time eating walleye was at Mac’s (through DoorDash nonetheless) and now I always look for it when I’m outside of Texas. This time, I was looking for a Northern city to fly into to catch the northern lights and may or may not have chosen MSP just for Mac’s The fries, cheese curds and fish are all excellent!

I first stumbled upon Mac’s in St Paul on Larpenteur and was really delighted to find a no nonsense fish and chips shop. Some months later I learned there was one closer to me in south Minneapolis. Both are great and have your made to order food up in a few minutes. I like being able to choose fish from a few options. Oh yeah, I really love their tangy lime sauce, btw.

What a hidden gem! We got the walleye combo and the chicken strips; absolutely delicious! Both were perfectly seasoned and the fish had an amazing crispy crust that melts in your mouth. I got it with tartar sauce and honey mustard, although I wouldn’t get the honey mustard because it was solid. Even so, this place was great and i’d stop by again!

Excellent fish! It’s nice to be able to choose what type of fish you would like with each order. We chose cod for one order and walleye for another. They offer halibut and Mahi. The prices are different for each starting with Mahi, then cod, walleye, and halibut being the most expensive.
We loved the cod and walleye! So crispy, and golden brown! The batter was thin and light, not greasy, and the fish was flakey, pure white, and very tasty. The cod was milder than the walleye, but each was wonderful! They have their own tarter sauce {try it!), plus the standard malt vinegar. We were not as impressed with the chips. Really, just like French fries. Overall, Mac’s ranks next to The Anchor, IMHO. Good job, Mac’s!

Best fish and fries ever. You can see the potato shipment in the lobby – it’s fresh. Simple menu – which I love. They specialize in what they specialize in – so it’s excellent. Order the walleye!

My friend and I were going to Starbucks, which is right next. Door and we saw the sign on the side of the building, and we decided to check this place out and the food was delicious and the the person on the inside was very helpful and the food was made really, really fast. It was a nice day. So we We’re able to sit outside and enjoy our walleye because it was walleye Wednesday.
The walleye, melt it in our mouth and the batter was just right. Everything about the food was great.

I had high hopes, but I would say a good option for an affordable fried fish dinners but would recommend focusing on a few options. It was good but lacked on a few things. Great curds and cod taco! However the halibut wasn’t worth the upcharge and the fries were only ok. The restaurant was unremarkable but had a nice mural. The was a lot on the side but it it had some large holes so we opted to park on the street.

We had a random desire for fish and chips last Monday night, so we decided to give Mac’s a shot. I read good things about this place on Reddit and had driven by it a few times, so I had been wanting to try it for a little while.
Got the walleye, halibut, fries, and cheese curds. We don’t eat fried food all that much, so eating all of this definitely made us feel pretty greasy and gross, but it tasted great.
We both loved the walleye and didn’t like the halibut much. I also am not sure if they actually gave us halibut or if it was cod, but it was average. The cheese curds were good and the employees were kind.
The lemon slices were cartoonishly small… couldn’t squeeze a thing out of those. The Cole slaw also tasted like it had been sitting around for a while.
Unfortunately the place was pretty empty, so I am hoping it was just an off night for them. If you like fish and chips, please give these guys some business! It was pretty solid all around. Looking to try the clams next time

I went to Mac’s looking for one thing and one thing only: good fried fish. And Mac’s delivered. The Walleye was great and they also have Halibut, which is a real treat. No “atmosphere” to speak of, but that’s not why you’re here.
