Our spacious restaurant in an old villa mixes the character and warmth of yesterday with the freshness and buzz of today. In 2016 we added a second restaurant in the heart of Queen Street, Richmond and our Stoke restaurant opened in 2020. Whether it is a meal before the movies or a whole evening of experiencing superb Indian cuisine we cater for all of your dining needs! We offer intimate table settings inside and a great courtyard area.

Great spot for dinner! The food was absolutely delicious – we ordered a range of curries, naan, and drinks, and everything was flavourful and very filling. My BIL even said it was the best mango chicken he’s had in NZ!
The staff were incredibly warm and friendly, with a special shout-out to Binay for being such a wonderful host and going the extra mile to celebrate my sister’s birthday with a message on her mango lassi and a complimentary cheesecake.
Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back when we’re in Nelson again 🙂

Really lovely food both lamb and fish dishes were perfectly cooked in there different ways and the pakoras we had as starters were delicious. Generous helpings and reasonably priced.

Awesome Indian food! This place really does it well. A nice atmosphere in either the indoor or the outdoor dining experience.
Staff were good, local beverages were very good and the food was great.
All the breads were exceptionally well done – and the curries were amazing.
A great place for families, friends and even couples to enjoy a nice night out (if you are a couple and want to be away from the crowds (or kids) then the booths outside, down the side, are perfect for that romantic date night curry.)

This was a great place for a family Indian meal. The food was good quality obviously and the absolute best onion baji I have ever tasted.
The only factor not to my particular taste was the spices. We ordered medium and there was no heat at all in any of our dishes.
Lovely place though, nice staff and a vibrant atmosphere. I’ll go for hot next time for sure

Used to love this place back in 2016 /2017 ,Was great bustling food was yum .
Went there after a while 2025 The customer service team have become relaxed , it was alright.
The food was ok won’t say bad , but definitely not good like it used to be .
Ordered butter chicken but got chicken tikka masala . Gave the feedback but he argued back that it’s not possible and it’s the same chef since 11 years .
As my Indian Heritage background I know my taste for Indian food . So might have won awards but not the same anymore has lost its touch … Drinks were warm like coke had asked for more ice also i asked if it was cans , was told yes but just served from big bottles , was on flatter side. Mehhh
Sorry team not rating you good becaus of honesty. Otherwise , enjoyed eating with family was alright environment . Hopefully you guys can up the game like it used to be as i truly love this place hopefully this feedback can bring positiva change in food and service

Thanks for clarifying that how the staff were and drinks . I guess you are truly proving me correct here rather taking the feedback to up the game you are taking it personally and pointing it back at the customer.
And now also dictating how my taste buds inside my mouth might have tasted the food ? Rather actually tale the feedback and have a chat with the chef and see what went wrong to create a better tase for next time .
Also thanks for pointing out to me that i was enjoying my food, yes i was hungry with my family and not that fussed when hungry . Hence i dropped a feedback so maybe you can up the game and make the improvement .
I can also see that the business has been sold recently and seems like it now the same anymore .
Anyway your choice guys your restaurant upto you how you want to take this feedback and get better or not . Not my loss 🙂 il take away more stars as you’re dictation on my taste buds telling me how i would now taste food inside my own body .

The Indian Cafe is located in a lovely old villa. The food is fantastic. The dishes are full of flavor and a good size. The Nan bread is hot and soft without being too soggy. I highly recommend the tandoori platter for 2 as a starter, it’s enough food for 3 to 4 people. If you still have food for a dessert you should try the Gulab Jamun. The service was good, but there was an older member of staff training a new employee, she was very condescending to the new employee.

We ordered the lunch platter and were disappointed with both the quality and quantity of the food. The portions were surprisingly small, and the dishes were served cold. Despite specifically requesting the curries to be spicy, they were overly sweet. When we asked for green chilies to adjust the flavor, we were told they didn’t have any—which is surprising for a restaurant. The staff was unaccommodating and unresponsive to our requests, which added to the overall poor experience.

Best Indian Restaurant in Nelson by a long shot. Amazing prices, great friendly staff and awesome wine selection. Recommend the Original Banquet for an awesome journey for your taste buds. Vindaloo is a stand out.

Been there last week, food was horrible, service and hospitality is below the standards. The food is sweet as sugar syrup and color will take few days to come off your fingers. Some items are stale so be aware. Ordered “Chole Bhature” and comes like this. Asked for chef but he never showed up. Very bad experience. Dont let them fool you with best awards an all. Be aware Be aware ❌❌
