Stopped by to pick up a few sodas to try out a few of the flavors. The bakery goods looked delicious so we decided to purchase a few things, we ordered a single glased donut and was told correct price on that $1.44, we ask about a loaf of something unmarked with a green sticker on the bottom that said seven, it was on a display shelf, we were told it was pumpkin bread and we were told it cost $5.00, we were charged 8.62, next we purchased a loaf of fresh bread for $4.42 , we were told it cost $5.00, next we purchased a gooey butter cake , told $9.00 , charged $9.14. Lastly we purchased three different flavors of the new Dukes bakery soda to try, marked $2.09 each on shelf was charged $2.17. All these prices were before taxes. So overcharged $3.42 before taxes. That’s the thanks for shopping local? Next, let’s get to taste and quality, gooey butter cake turned out quite dry and not very gooey, very dry like a few days old but unknown to when it was made. Sorry but can’t recommend that,, next the pumpkin loaf, moist, dense which is expected, very dark, filled with what we believe was raisins, I can’t recommend that either, sorry. Next the bread, we purchased the sliced loaf the women in front of us got, she didn’t want the sliced so we got it freshly sliced, nice crunch to the crust, very moist and soft interior. Excellent quality bread, would highly recommend the bread, I’ve had it before and still love the bread. The donut was light, fluffy and so delicious, it melts in your mouth, highly recommended the donut. The soda we are saving for later not around the sweets. Overall, sad we were overcharged, sad about the gooey butter cake, happy about the donut and the bread, so confused about about the visit, going back for breads and donuts, definitely checking my receipt. Hoping for a better visit next time.

I visited for my first time and I’ll definitely be back! The girls who were working were so sweet and knowledgeable about what they had. They suggested different pastries and told me on Saturday they have a bigger selection of their donuts and that they are always fresh! I got a blueberry muffin, a cookie (they had soft or hard shell frosting), donuts (one vanilla, one jelly filled), and a pastry with a layer of custard and jelly. Everything has been so delicious, and I got all of that for $12! While I was in a little boy came in with a few dollars and the ladies working were helped him count everything out and get him exactly what he wanted. There is also a cute donut mural and the cutest neon light for pictures. I’ll definitely be back, I’d say this place is a must try! (ignore my bites in the photos, I couldn’t wait, it smelt too good lol)

I ordered a burger cake for my friends birthday today 8/4/25. It looked horrible and had a hole upon pick up. We had to try to fix it at home so we still had a cake for today. The ingredients are all mashed together, theres lettuce in between the brown scattered burger bits. We kept saying it better taste good since it looks how it does. It was subpar. I could have gotten something better for less money at shnucks. I paid $46 and they couldn’t even tape the box for us at the counter. They handed the birthday person the tape and said you’ll have to do some manual labor and laughed.

Edit: talked to a manager who made many excuses about the heat making the cake look like this and about the service we recieved. I will not be placing any more future orders with dukes based on these experiences and suggest you don’t either.

So my roommate got me my dream cake for my birthday except that it hardly looked like the cake I wanted. We ordered a cheeseburger cake. It’s like the person making cakes was new to cake making and had no idea what a cheeseburger looks like. I could’ve done a better job. In fact I did, because I had to fix my own cake as it had a giant hole when I picked it up. I looked at it and the girl was like, “do you like it?” like girl there’s a huge hole? I was in shock so I didn’t say anything to my roommate until we got home since he didn’t notice the hole and he’s the one who paid so I didn’t want to be ungrateful. the lady behind the counter also told me “I’m gonna make you do some manual labor haha I just don’t want to tape this box back up” and gave me the tape for my $50 cake with a hole to tape up myself. even if it didn’t have the hole it was still designed nothing like a burger. bits of what I assume was supposed to be lettuce were poking out from the patty and the lettuce itself looked like a leaf from a tree. It was honestly such a simple design I know Walmart could have done it but somehow Dukes messed it up and when my roommate wrote a review they said they’d call but told us it was our fault for not saying anything day of and won’t give us a refund. I’d like to point out the taste wasn’t amazing as there was more icing than cake. DON’T GO HERE I repeat do not go here if you want something that looks and tastes good.

EDIT: Since there is no way for me to leave a new comment I will leave this here – We did not speak on the phone last week, you spoke with my roommate. My roommate commented same day about the cake and was told someone would reach out to him but he didn’t hear back that day, which is not our fault. Not to mention if we had given back the cake I would not have had any cake for my birthday thanks to you? My cake was not even placed in a fridge and you have those there, I saw them, yet you say the icing is heat sensitive. There is no need for a gift card as we are no longer interested in any products from this bakery, even free, as you feel the need to try and make this somehow our fault but we just wanted a nice cake and since you couldn’t do that, a proper apology and a refund. I literally threw away the cake today because it was so bad we didn’t want to eat it.

I have to go back. Is such a cool place. Many of the items in the store had no description of what they were or their ingredients. The girl that worked there was super nice and helpful to find out for us what was what and the prices. I had a molten lava brownie. It was okay. There was a large ball of what looked like icing on top but it was really a large ball of sugary ball of shortening. The brownie was more like a dense cake. The chocolate fudge in the middle was to die for. My husband got the crème puff with Bavarian cream. He said it was a bit dry but the cream was delicious.

If you have to ask what the price is, you can’t afford it.
I just wanted to support a local business but without price tags I took a gamble I regret and paid $40 for a tray of brownies. Wish they were at least good quality, but I’m not sure that’s an accurate description.

Oh I found a new place. Walking around Alton, IL yesterday because it was just beautiful outside. We came across this gem. No indoor seating, which is a plus because it’s so tempting to order more. They do have a covered outdoor seating area to enjoy. So what did I order, just about all the small sample size pastries. Wow were they good. As many times as I’ve been through Alton and it took me this long to find it.
