I ordered the chicken chow mein which should normally be made with noodles and chicken and instead was given plain boiled chicken and cabbage. My food was absolutely disgusting and to have spent close to $50 for plain and disgusting food was not on the plan. This restaurant used to be good. Will never come back again .

I come here very often and I always order the chicken with mixed vegetables plate, a cabbage soup, and edamame with garlic butter. The food here is good and this is my favorite lotus location. I like how they offer a large self serve tea portion. I also recommend the fried rice platter.

The only good thing about this place was the service of the cashier. Interior was old and dingy, had a funny smell.

Four Seasons – bland, lacked any seasoning, vegetables overcooked to mush and the meat was coated in a pasty wrinkly flour or starch? Meat super tough.

Beef Chow Fung – super greasy, weird beef, very bland, no seasoning.

Kung po chicken – guess what? You got it! Weird coated chicken in a very sweet beige sauce with burnt spring onions. No salt and no spice at all! Pretty horrid.

Peking duck – as dry as a flip flop on a beach! Duck jerky!

Egg rolls & spring rolls – super greasy, soggy, tasteless.

BBQ Ribs – tough & tasteless

Steamed meat dumplings – thick and gummy, tasteless and dry.

Steamed shrimp dumplings – dry, pasty, flavorless, gummy

I have eaten a variety of Asian cuisine in my life. Ranging from authentic to westernised. This is by far the WORST oriental meal I have ever had. The person cooking the food has zero palette and needs a new profession! Their cooking skills are outright offensive. How dare you charge people for this. Even if the food was free (which it most certainly was not) we wouldn’t eat it. We read the reviews, 4.2 stars it said. LIES! Huge waste of time and money. Actually so disgusted that we cannot even be bothered to call and complain. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! We made a very costly mistake, trust our feedback, go elsewhere.

Okay if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say nothing at all. But that’s not the idea of a review now even though I’ve been to China you can’t compare food here to there so let’s just drop that off the map this is an American Chinese restaurant. But that being said this is probably the worst Chinese food I’ve eaten ever. The chef is in love with salt the service was poor had to ask for serviceware had to ask for napkins had to ask to complete the meal. And do they love cabbage it’s just sad they don’t know how to prepare it. It looks like this place has been here a long time and I’m sure they have their loyal clientele as a matter of fact one of them sent me here saying how good it was. If you love Chinese food they might serve something good I’m sure every place does but I ordered four items and no. The prices are standard about $12 a dish with a few more costing 16 technically speaking not unreasonable but the quality the service the experience amount to pass on this place drive on by

Food was solid, portions were great, and price was reasonable. I took takeout, but there’s a cleaning smell towards the front. No idea if it’s also in the dining area. Just a potential warning.

Ordered roast pork eggplant with garlic sauce. Plate is suppose to be spicy. The Chile was in it but twice as much and burnt. Tasted like leftovers mixed with a little bit of fresh ingredients. Roasted pork was good but WAY too much sauce… inedible. Rice was quite dry for fried rice and hot sour soup super thick…. same situation last time and won’t be back to the Boca Chica location. Alton Gloor better. Free Wong tongs were good with the spicy dip. Fiancé like his beef and broccoli and catfish soup.

This was my first visit. It was a late ish dinner. There were a few other diners in the restaurant. I didn’t see anyone Asian, eating or working, in the restaurant.

I am trying to avoid wheat flour, so I rejected the complementary chips. My waiter was pretty attentive. I was happy that they have an extensive combo menu for one, and the prices are very reasonable. The hot and sour soup was okay, maybe not the freshest. The waiter recommended the Tripple Crown, which I had never heard of before. It was well portioned with assorted meats/shrimp/veggies but had way too much sauce, as you can see in the photo. The meats and veggies are swimming in it. The shrimp were especially tasty. The filling of the egg roll was okay, l left the casing to avoid the wheat flour. The fried rice was pretty awful, I’d probably choose steamed if I return. Overall, the portions were generous, so there is value for the price.

I’m guessing the decor dates back to the 80’s when they opened and is now dingy/depressing. I think, if they can afford it, a refresh is in order.

There was enough staff on hand that if they worked together (instead of playing with their phones) they could have served by hand instead of using the rather unpleasant looking cart.

Other reviews suggest Panda Express as an alternative, I highly prefer table service on reusable plates/cutlery over cafeteria style.

Lotus Cafe is a great experience and not costly.
They have a good traditional Chinese menu with one or two Thai dishes. Place is clean with good service, but not fast. Prices are very reasonable. They also offer combo plates at 8.95 which come with choice of soup, rice and an egg roll. They take credit cards and have high chairs.

They serve complimentary won tons which are deadly to diets!

I had the sweet sour chicken and almond chicken combo. The almond chicken came with a lot of vegetables which I like. My husband had the chili shrimp and sweet – sour shrimp. He said it was good but not as hot as he expected.

We got a piece of tres le he cheesecake to go which was decadent.
