Best bar in New Canaan—perfect for before dinner or after dinner drinks from nearby hot spots like Sole, Farmer’s Table or Elm. The alley entrance reminds me of Freemans in NYC, i.e. intimate speakeasy vibes but make it casual. To get there, walk down the alleyway off Elm Street between Barvida and Chef Luis Restaurant, or, find the staircase along the building edge from the Park Street parking lot and walk down the flight of stairs. What to order: gourmet hot dogs, wings, or anything in the animal style/flying dutchmen realm IYK. Best for: watching sports, live music, and literally bumping into old and new friends. It offers a dog-friendly and cat-friendly outdoor patio area, too — look for the Adirondack chairs in the front. Cheers!

If you’re looking for a place that will shock you in every possible way, visit the White Buffalo. I tried four dishes, and each one was worse than the last. Even my 4-year-old refused to eat it. I honestly don’t know how this bar survives in New Canaan. It seems they source the lowest quality ingredients from Acme and hired a chef who cooks by instinct—blindly, and perhaps not even for humans.
A trip to the restroom is an adventure in itself, leading you through a maze to the dirtiest bathroom I have encountered in Fairfield county. You will likely step into a puddle of water right by the toilet, as the staff clearly hasn’t checked its condition in months.
If you’ve ever wondered what it is like to eat at a place that doesn’t care about its customers, this is the one. Even the owner, fully aware of what’s being served, didn’t ask a single question when all our plates were returned barely touched. A true “gem” of Elm Street.

Nice spot, but food was pretty pathetic. ‘Smash’ burger was 2 slider patties on sliced bread with some potato chips.
