First off, you walk in and it feels like the kind of spot where the menu doesn’t need a whole speech. You already know what you’re here for: chopped liver, pastrami, corned beef, kishka, deli classics, the kind of food that makes you sit back after the first bite like, “Ahhh… now we’re talking.” The atmosphere is simple and relaxed — like, you’re not here to take pictures for Instagram, you’re here because you’re hungry and you want it to be good.
And the portions? Let’s just say nobody ever left R & S thinking, “Wow, I wish they gave me less.” This is the type of place where you order one sandwich and somehow it becomes two meals… unless you’re extra hungry, then it becomes one meal and a little regret because you should’ve ordered another side
Also, for a kosher deli, it has that Lakewood special feeling — you’ll see all types coming in: guys grabbing something quick, people picking up for Shabbos, someone walking out with a bag that looks like it’s feeding a whole minyan. You get the sense that this place has been holding down the neighborhood for a while, and they know exactly what they’re doing.
And if you need catering, they’re serious about it. This isn’t “we cater” the way some places say it but then you get three trays and a headache. R & S is the type you can rely on when you need food that will make people say, “Who catered this?” (and then you act humble like, “Ah, stam… nothing…”)
Bottom line: classic kosher deli, heimish vibes, solid food, and the kind of place you’re happy exists in town. If you’re craving real deli — run, don’t walk. Just come hungry… and maybe don’t plan a diet that day.
