If you’re in Lakewood and you want that real old-school heimish deli vibe — not fancy-shmancy, not “artisan this, microgreens that” — but a place where the food is straight, honest, and geshmak, then R & S is mamash a go-to.
First off, you walk in and it feels like the kind of spot where the menu doesn’t need a whole speech. You already know what you’re here for: chopped liver, pastrami, corned beef, kishka, deli classics, the kind of food that makes you sit back after the first bite like, “Ahhh… now we’re talking.” The atmosphere is simple and relaxed — like, you’re not here to take pictures for Instagram, you’re here because you’re hungry and you want it to be good.
And the portions? Let’s just say nobody ever left R & S thinking, “Wow, I wish they gave me less.” This is the type of place where you order one sandwich and somehow it becomes two meals… unless you’re extra hungry, then it becomes one meal and a little regret because you should’ve ordered another side

Wow R&S kosher restaurant and takeout has been around for years and nobody beats them their liver is an icon in the small town of Lakewood New Jersey (it’s not such a small town no more) and their potato salad cannot be beat! All of their food is great! It’s a very homey old style takeout everyone’s a friend!

This establishment has been around since 1921. I went there about 15 years ago, and started going again frequently now. The place is amazing! real old fashioned delicatessen. Hardly anything like it left in the world.
