My girlfriend and I hit up Chuck Lager in Newark for Valentine’s Day, and honestly, we didn’t really know what to expect going in. I am so glad we did.
I’ve had a lot of fish and chips in my time, but these were easily some of the best I’ve ever had—the fries especially were absolute perfection. She got the French dip, and it was just as spectacular.
One of the coolest parts was finding out they hide little ducks all over the restaurant for people and kids to find. It’s such a fun, unique touch that you just don’t see anywhere else.
If you haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out. We’ll definitely be back.

I use my card for hotel points and our go-to left the program, so we were looking for somewhere else I could get in 12 visits by the end of the year and earn some bonus points. After looking at the menu and hearing about their happy hour, we thought this would be our new favorite. We walked in saying hopefully we’ll be coming back 11 more times. Then we walked out saying ok well, maybe just once more for that giant pretzel. I’m not going to say who it was specifically because maybe it was just a bad day, but we felt like it was an inconvenience to wait on us. We really enjoyed the happy hour sliders and the cheese curds. The meat in the tacos was delicious, we were not a fan of the happy hour nachos as they were soggy. The happy hour drink menu is great. So maybe a drink and a pretzel but then somewhere else to earn my points.

Unfortunately, tonight was completely different. Our wings were barely done, and when we expressed our concern, the manager told us “that’s just how they are.” That response was disappointing, especially knowing how often we dine here and how we’ve never been served undercooked wings before.
We truly enjoy this place, which is why this experience was surprising and honestly frustrating. We hope this is addressed, because we want to continue supporting a restaurant we genuinely love.

We stopped by this location on a spontaneous visit while en route to another activity. After discovering that our initial restaurant choice was closed, we opted for this nearby establishment, which turned out to be visually impressive and exceptionally clean. The warm welcome from the staff and the inviting atmosphere were noteworthy, particularly the appealing bar design.
Upon our arrival, we were pleased to find a fun activity for the children: a duck hunt where they could search for hidden ducks throughout the restaurant, with the promise of a prize for those who found all seven. Additionally, we learned that kids eat free on Tuesdays, which was a delightful surprise.
Our experience took a downturn once the food arrived. While the patties of my burger were flavorful, the excessive saturation rendered the bread soggy, making it less appetizing. My partner ordered the truffle fries, which were commendable and the highlight of our meal. We also tried the deviled eggs as an appetizer but found them lacking in flavor, reminiscent of pre-packaged options. My partner’s meatball sub suffered from a notable absence of seasoning and taste. My burger, though minimally seasoned, still surpassed the flavor profile of hers, but overall, the dishes felt quite bland.
As we concluded our meal, we intended to order dessert; however, we experienced a lengthy wait of nearly 40 minutes for our waitress to return. Eventually, we approached the hostess to place our dessert order but opted to leave when time became a concern for our prior commitment to Boy Scouts.
Furthermore, upon the bill’s presentation, there was an issue with the complimentary children’s meal; our server was reluctant to remove it despite a clear sign at the entrance indicating Tuesday’s “kids eat free” promotion.
In summary, while the atmosphere and decor were commendable, the food quality and service left much to be desired, leading us to decide that we are unlikely to return.

Excellent food & excellent service! Our waitress (DAY) was fantastic! She took great care of us & was genuinely friendly. The manager was awesome, she came out to check on us! Super friendly! I loved my beer cheese burger! So delicious! My friend got the carnitas taco’s and she couldn’t stop raving about them! Be sure to try the burgers on Monday night because they are 1/2 price! Fantastic value & great atmosphere! We will definitely be back to try some other items. Their menu looks so good!

We will not be going back. The food the last few times was bland. There was not 1 thing that tasted good. Not sure what’s happened to the place. Also it was football night of the local team and there was barely any people. Which is a big red flag at a bar restaurant. So sad I really liked the place

First time dining at Chuck lagers was very impressed with everything! The food was absolutely delicious! The service was right on point! Our server Casey was very professional very helpful and knew the menu! Casey made us feel very welcome and was eager to explain all about the history of chuck….very interesting! The manager also stopped to welcome us and made sure we were happy! We will definitely be back! Had the fish and chips which was out of this world the portion was huge! Also had a couple of appetizers which were amazing!!

This is very close to home but never truly liked the what it looked like from the road. Really you can’t see it. We met Sam Mousley at another event and loved his music. He said he played here. That’s how we made it. I’m impressed with the place. Very nice inside! Food was very good!
