Reviews
We went for the five course tasting menu with three matched wines. Everything lived up to our expectations!
My boyfriend and I were denied access to pass through as guest from the hotel. To me this felt really restricted, it states nowhere you can’t pass. Is it maybe because of two men, which one of color? I don’t know, but I’ve never seen this kind of behavior in my life. We were demanded to walk through dirty stones at the parking lot in our white outfits. Completely unacceptable.
There was no reasoning to be made, we were completely denied and treated like scum by this gentleman that worked there. Not needed to say we were dressed in proper attire.
I’m shocked that the Michelin institute gives a star to this establishment, where clearly not everyone is welcome.
To start this review, let’s talk service. I booked a week in advance and gave very clear allergy requirements for the meal (both diners the same, no gluten or crustaceans). The staff had to clarify at least three times and still managed to flub it. After the hostess asked us about it, the amuses were brought with the question “which of you has the shellfish allergy?” When we again said it’s both of us, and the server points to one of the plates and says “oh don’t eat that one then” and…leaves it on the table?? With no explanation of why we can’t eat it. And when we finally flagged down the hostess to ask, it turned out to be mussels, which is a different allergy…so we could eat it after all (by then it was cold).
It’s not just about allergies though: throughout the night the service was poor. They didn’t bring a stool for my wife’s bag when we sat down, until we asked for it (other tables got one without asking). They didn’t refill our water at all until my wife picked up the bottle herself (the hostess practically sprinted over, grimacing). It didn’t get refilled again after that. They had to be asked to refill the olive oil for the (terrible) bread. This isn’t the Hard Rock Cafe, I shouldn’t have to ask for basic service and hospitality when I’m spending 350 euros on a meal.
Ok, so that obviously sucked. But at least the food was good, right? Wrong again!! There was exactly one good dish we received, it was trout with some creams and gels. I wish I could give some more color to this but that’s all I remember it being. The others were inexplicable. Rubbery overcooked octopus tentacle with a very bitter wine sauce and an even more bitter lemon cream (was it made of pith? Seriously). Lamb three ways (all bad). Both were served with undercooked braised leeks. Seared bluefin tuna with a distinct flavor of butane torch. I wish I was exaggerating but octopus and lamb are two of my wife’s favorite things to eat and neither dish was even average, they were terrible. Overall, really bad.
I would question if maybe the chef was off that night, but they sent him out to my table to ask us how everything was. I truly think it was a genuine question on his part, I really refuse to believe he (or anyone in the back of house) saw or tasted any of the food I was served. Otherwise, how did it get served to me like this?
Overall, I rate this restaurant two stars out of five possible. One star goes to the pastry chef (dessert was actually really good) and the other belongs to the Sommelier. Otherwise, the rest of the evening ranged between forgettable and regrettable but certainly not worthy of a Michelin star or even a mention in the guidebook. Save your money and dine elsewhere.
Edit: It’s like you didn’t even read my review, quite frankly. You obviously didn’t even read the allergy requirements that I wrote AGAIN into this review. I have a crustacean allergy, therefore I am not mistaken about some crustacean sauce on the octopus, you had to substite that with a horrible red wine sauce and even worse lemon cream. The bread was not a homemade foccacia, it was some horrible frozen gluten-free bread. Please don’t patronize me with your useless reply. I had the opportunity to tell the chef he was incompetent? Sorry, I wanted to leave and you made me wait for him at my table for fifteen minutes after the bill was paid. When he finally showed up, after we already stood up to leave, what was I supposed to say? Was he going to give me a refund? Probably not, so what was the point? You have the feedback now and you can’t accept it, so why would it have been different in person? Ridiculous. Amateurish experience, do better (but I don’t think you can).
