Reviews
The location is gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the staff is lovely! Our server was Brandi and she was amazing! Brandi was the perfect amount of friendly, polite, genuine — and we always had everything we needed! Having waitresses before myself, you can really notice quality service, and Brandi had it!
I was so happy to get the Mahi Mahi that was on special (only critique here is that the fish was ever so slightly dry, could have been cooked 1-2 minutes less), and the Mac & Cheese and asparagus it came with were also divine (thanks to a lemon herb butter)! Overall, I was impressed with the menu selection, lots of options. We shared the key lime pie and had about 3 drinks each. The fact that you can get beer from local breweries was so lovely! Top it off with getting to leave the deck outside and sitting right next to the river… what could be more perfect?
Now on to the best part for me personally, the historical aspects! I am originally from PA and I moved to Germany roughly 6 years ago. I was so pleased to see historical info about the tavern all around, and it was comforting to see touches of my new home, here at my old home. I appreciate that they keep the old German menu and other reminders of the tavern’s origin! A train even chugged along within the first few minutes of us sitting down.
Not only does the tavern itself boast nods to German culture, they remembered what’s important: the beer! I really had to hold myself back from getting a Warsteiner (I never see this in PA, and was so pleased they have it along with Münchener Bier), but I was happy to get a local brewery’s Kölsch instead! 🙂
Ich habe mich echt zuhause gefühlt! I will definitely be bringing my German partner with next time! Now we just have to come in winter instead of summer to really put the “German-inspired dishes” to the test! Gerne gerne wieder!
Vielen Dank, und bis zum nächstes Mal!
Atmosphere
Wow what a really nice spot on the river in a really cozy building. It’s like teleporting back in time. I absolutely loved the interior. I do want to note that the interior had a HUGE fly problem that docks it a star, which is very unfortunate in this category.
Service
Very nice waitress, who got us what we need but what knocks it back for me is the time it took to take our orders on what appeared to be a slow evening.
Food
I’m very mixed on this because the nachos and brussel sprouts were pretty darn good for the appetizers. Unfortunately, the main courses were severely under seasoned and not cooked to standard. I got the my mother and I got the prime rib, and my brother got the mahi mahi fish special. For the price of the prime rib I was left displeased as it lacked any flavor at all and was a huge let down. The mahi mahi suffered a similar problem when I tasted it, though the tropical rice that came with it was pretty good. Food wise, not worth many of the prices for the overall flavor and quality I’m afraid.
It’s a neat place to go, just don’t go there expecting something that will blow you away.
