Small place with good food. It’s owner is very nice and fun to talk to. Food is a good comfort food. And worth the amount asked for. It’s a good hangout to enjoy lunch and have a nice conversation. There are a few tables outside to sit and about 5 or more inside.

Finally got to try Bubbala’s today with some girlfriends and wow—it was amazing! We tried a little bit of everything: matzo ball soup, blintzes, reuben, pastrami sandwich, and a bagel with whitefish salad. Literally everything was soo good! They nailed all of the classics. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu. The restaurant is super cute too, and the owner and staff were so nice!!

Delicious lunch! The brisket sandwich was delectable. The pastrami sandwich was very tasty. The apple almond strudel was out of this world! One of the best pastries I’ve ever had! The knish was lovely and the oolong monkey bread blew us away! Very warm and welcoming atmosphere to bring my young toddler too and they have books and things for kids to enjoy.

The first time I went to San Anselmo I blinked twice and missed it, so when those pesky Hansen Twins, Susan and Sally asked me to join them for lunch at Bubbala’s Neighborhood Eatery, I was all in!
But…I had no idea where Bubbala’s Neighborhood Eatery is, so I asked Sally, and she said “It’s in San Anselmo…you can’t miss it”
Well, I found Bubbala’s right off the bat, but the second I saw house made Pastrami Reuben Sandos on the menu ..I got as excited as a kid in a candy store! And…Let me tell you something, that Pastrami was Amazing! 5 stars and worthy of a two hour drive! ☆☆☆☆☆

I really wanted to love this place and was genuinely excited to have a traditional Jewish deli in town. I’ve been about five times now, and overall the experience has been mixed.

The coffee drinks are consistently amazing, and I will say the older staff members are truly lovely, warm, and welcoming. Unfortunately, there’s a younger guy who works there who seems genuinely miserable to be there, and it shows. He never acknowledges you, doesn’t respond when you say thank you, and even when you tip well he seems annoyed that customers are there at all. We’ve all worked customer service. A smile and basic kindness go a long way, especially in a neighborhood deli. That kind of energy can really scare people away.

Food-wise, I was especially disappointed this last visit. I ordered a Reuben to go and was excited for it, only to get home and realize there was no sauerkraut on it. The side of potato salad I was really looking forward to was incredibly bland. It desperately needed salt and pepper, if not a little vinegar. It just had no flavor.

I keep coming back hoping it’ll click, because I want to support a local Jewish deli, but aside from the coffee, the food has been mediocre overall. I truly hope they tighten things up because this place has so much potential, and great service plus flavorful food would make all the difference.

I clicked liked it although I am still looking forward to trying the place. I had to click stars in order to post this comment, which I wanted to post in advance in hopes that the restaurant might become more of a real Jewish Deli than the sandwich photos show. The pictures show the sandwiches to be super skimpy, nothing like an authe tic Jewish deli makes sandwiches with the thinly sliced meat layered high and thick. For decades the San Francisco Bay Area has gotten away withcalling mere sandwich shops Jewish delis, You’re not really serving this sad little Skippy sandwiches with 2 to 3 slices of layers of meat instead of many layers of delicious slices of meat piled high. Not since the Union Deli on Union Street in San Francisco closed decades ago has San Francisco had a truly excellent deli. In any case I look forward to trying this one, although with low expectations due to the photos.

I loved my first meal here — first got a brisket sandwich and then shared rugelach and a chocolate ganache filled kouign-amann w the table. The pastry was so rich and delicious and the rugelach was so tender, one of the best I’ve had 🙂

I was praying that this place would be something like the New York Jewish delicatessens that I grew up in. I give them credit for trying, but so far I am disappointed. I judge delis by their corned beef sandwiches which are difficult to get right. Bubbalas missed badly. Their corned beef was flavorful but it was impossible to chew. It was thickly sliced. It resembled the corned beef that some people eat with cabbage. For sandwiches, corned beef should be sliced thin and agains the grain so that it can be chewed. I could not chew it so I took it out of the sandwich and tried to cut it with a knife. Again I failed. I must say that the rye bread was excellent, which suggests that the restaurant has some hope.
The people preparing the food at lunch time did not appear to be familiar with the Eastern European style of cooking. It would be a step forward if this restaurant could hire at least one cook who has worked in a real Jewish deli.
I must also say that I expressed my disappointment to the proprietress who immediately apologized and offered to refund my money.
I will return and give them a second chance. My burning desire for true deli food compels me to hope against hope.

I was surprised and delighted with my lunch at Bubbala’s. I got half a Pastrami sandwich with a side of coleslaw and a cup of cabbage soup. The sandwich was delicious and I loved the coleslaw and the soup. This is a wonderful little gem and I can’t wait to return and try the cupcake and the other pastries.

A mom and pop shop with awesome food quality and inventive menu. I love the friendly couple and the daughter who does lovely pastries. It warms my heart that places like that exist.
