Two years ago, my fiancé and I took an incredible cross-country road trip. As part of our adventure, we made it a mission to seek out and grade local bakeries. We sampled and compared cheese danishes and customer service in about 20 different cities—from Alabama to Wyoming, Utah, Texas, and Mississippi. Some bakeries were quite good… and some were downright awful.

Who knew that two years later, we’d find the best one — hands down — right here in Alabama?

Not only was the customer service at Hello Bakery exemplary, engaging, and genuinely friendly, but the cheese danishes (and the other pastries I sampled) were absolutely phenomenal. The baker and his partner have been honing their craft for 28 years, and their shop, nestled between Crestview South and Mountain Brook, has been serving the community for just over two years.

The folk-art-decorated bakery has clearly found its audience — even at 8:30 in the morning, the traffic was steady. And those cheese danishes? Incredible. Some places get the bread right, others nail the custard, but rarely do both shine. Here, the croissant-like bread is buttery and delicately layered without being overly sweet. The custard is rich, creamy, and flavorful — not cloyingly sugary, which is often used to mask mediocrity.

I can’t recommend them highly enough. Solid 10 out of 10. Net Promoter Score: off the charts.

The owner was a sweetheart & was chatting with his mama when I walked in. I love family run businesses! It’s a cozy little place tucked away in the middle of a neighborhood in a random strip mall. The cinnamon roll is made with a laminated dough (like croissants), so that’s why it’s flat. But it’s SO good – flaky, chewy, buttery & just sweet enough. I also had the cookies & cream ice cream. If you’re used to artificial flavors & corn syrup overload you will be disappointed. They had caramel cake that I’ll definitely need to try next time, but I’ve got enough thickness in these thighs. They are also military friendly. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in town.

This was my first visit there and I got the cream cheese danish because it looked delectable and I was not mistaken! That was probably the most delicious cheese danish I have had and the bakery is out of my way, but I will make a trip to be back! Not to mention the service was phenomenal and friendly!

I finally found a bakery in the Bham area that makes real lemon meringue pies. These are mini in size and sooooo good! Just like my Mother used to make.
Their chocolate croissants are also awesome! The people are so friendly and helpful. I met Wim, the owner and he is so open about where he’s been and his background and what he’s up to now. Do yourself a huge favor and go to Hello Bakery.

I stopped by Hello Bakery and was blown away by their delicious croissants—but what really stood out was the owner’s kindness! I bought four pastries, and to my surprise, they gifted me a free almond croissant!

Croissant Quality:
The croissants here are perfectly flaky, buttery, and freshly baked. The plain croissant had a crisp exterior with soft, airy layers inside, while the almond croissant (my free treat!) was rich, slightly sweet, and packed with crunchy almond goodness. Absolutely delicious!

Customer Service:
The owner was warm and welcoming, and the free croissant was such a lovely gesture. It’s rare to find a bakery that cares so much about making customers happy!

Final Thoughts:
If you want top-tier croissants and a bakery that goes above and beyond, Hello Bakery is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back—maybe they’ll surprise me again! Highly recommend!

Let me just start off by saying, what an amazing bakery. I love pastries so much so I got a cream cheese Danish, an apple cream cheese Danish, and a cinnamon roll because I always love a good cinnamon roll. This is by far one of the best cream cheese danishes I’ve ever had in my life. I would have never thought to add apple filling to the cream cheese Danish, but it works perfectly and is so amazing! almost like a apple pie cheesecake…so so divine! thank you so much for your wonderful pastries and I will definitely be back soon! 🙂

I was “warned” this could be addictive! The personalities, the food, the ambience – all good!
The first bite of the blueberry cheese Danish – oh – you can taste the freshness. Later visits had me taste the cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissants, strawberry Danish, and the ice cream – all compete with being a favorite!

This little bakery is tucked away in a small shopping strip in a neighborhood. We visited it after reading about it in an online article about local bakeries. The writer suggested the cinnamon roll which I got and it did not disappoint. The dough is like a croissant dough and, unlike other cinnamon rolls where you need the cream on top, you don’t need it with these. Warm it up a little and give it a try.
