Stylish canteen-style eatery with a patio offering Portuguese-Indian dishes, plus wine & cocktails.

This place is top tier and has a great atmosphere. Very attentive service at the bar. We went for “social hour” (happy hour) and the prices couldn’t be beat. The pizzettes (naan pizzas) are a steal, the $4 sangria is delightful, and the pakora portion was excellent. We also had the fish goan curry- the flavor was rich, even if portion isn’t huge. Be prepared to share a bunch of small plates and you won’t be disappointed. This has to be one of the better happy hours in Houston in my opinion. Definitely a solid choice for upscale Indian food in Houston.

da Gama is located in the MKT plaza, and is an Indian-Portuguese fusion restaurant.
I have been a few times and have only tried the Indian dishes, such as Mum’s chicken curry, pork vindaloo, garlic naan, sh pani puri, and gulab jamun. I also tried their cauliflower naan pizzette and the kale and goat cheese naan pizzette.
Their social hours aka happy hour deals are pretty good; you can get the naan pizzettes for half off along with some wines by the glass. The garlic naan and the naan pizzettes are crispy, light, and airy. I like to dip the pizzettes in the curry for an even more fusion twist~
My favorite curry is the pork vindaloo; it’s spicier than the other curries and has the most flavor. The others are chicken-based.
The pani puri was pretty big, but you can eat them in one bite and only come with two. They were refreshing, but I do wish they came with more. The gulab jamun sundae was okay. The balls were a bit hard from being sandwiched in ice cream. I have had gulab jamun where the ice cream is placed on top and the balls are still soft and warm and would have preferred it more that way~
The inside is spacious, and they also have a good amount of seating outside, too, for when the weather is nice. Service can be a little slow when it is packed, and the food takes some time to come out both when it is busy and not too busy during lunch time.
I think da Gama is good for shareable dishes, and the deals during their social hours would be a great time to try their dishes. Their naan and pizzetes are my favorites, especially with the pork vindaloo. Hoping to try their other dishes next!

The Da Gama Canteen is a fantastic spot for family or business gatherings! I absolutely love their unique blend of Portuguese-Indian cuisine, which keeps me coming back to explore more delicious menu items. Their butter chicken has a lovely hint of sweetness that perfectly balances the spices, making it a treat for the taste buds. And don’t get me started on the Portuguese egg custard—it’s simply delightful and reminds me of the Chinese version I adore. I can’t wait to revisit Da Gama and try even more of their amazing dishes!

As a desi who is familiar with Indian cuisine and has tried various flavours from India this restaurant left me wanting a bit more. I was excited about the pain puri, but really disappointed with the crab filling and the accompaniment water, both tasteless. The server later told us that we could have gotten a vegan option which she thought was much better than this option on the menu but it’s only available if you ask and are aware. We also ordered a patatas bravas appetiser which was essentially aloo gobhi with complex taste and just didn’t cut the mark and seemed really overpriced. We also ordered the Goan curry the fish curry for which the restaurant actually received the Michelin star for and it seemed like most of their curries, including the curry as well as the MoM’s chicken curry had more of potato in it than the protein and that was a little bit disappointing. I did however, enjoy the taste of the mom‘s chicken curry and the naans were great but just seemed overpriced overall for the portion sizes. The masala fries were also burnt but the aioli tasted really good. Both our server and the host who seated us were very nice.

it’s a 4.5 for me if i’m being very picky with details. I loved my food. I got chicken curry, peanut chicken tikka, the gun powder fries and boondi raita. (they were out of mango lassi which was sad but understandable).
Fiancée loved the crab panipuri but didn’t like the goan fish curry given he got a potato in it whilst it wasn’t mentioned in the menu.
Wish they had the tables a bit apart.

We were so happy we came across da Gama! Located in the MKT Plaza, they fuse Indian and Portuguese cuisines beautifully! We came for lunch, ordered the lunch specials which include an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $25!
If you’re ordering the power bowl, just a heads up that it is served cold. We wish this was notated on the menu (the reason we took it down one star for food, but it was still good, just unexpected).
The portions are larger than what I would normally think for a lunch meal, so there was food to take home for leftovers.
All in all, we’ll be back!

I’ve surely never heard of Portuguese Indian spot — what a combo! And a combo that delivers! Insane pairings of flavors and spices, along with the textures. It’s a treat — no wonder Michelin has made its way here. Highly recommend the cauliflower pizzette, also don’t skip on the dessert. Sadly the service is very sub par, going from too much and too often to quite careless and pushing us out when we weren’t ready to pay and leave. Would recommend still and return!

What an absolutely delightful food experience! From the starters to the creamy masala chai at the end of the meal, as well as the welcoming, warm environment and the knowledgeable and attentive service, made this one of the best restaurant meals I’ve had in a very long time. Highly recommend.

Good food, interesting fusion of ingredients. We ordered the Goan Fish curry, lamb ribs, aloo chat, dhokla, piri piri chicken- food was flavor full.
Ras Malai cake and Bolacha cake tasted great too! The portion size is small for the price and is not shareable.
The restaurant has a nice vibe and good locality. Plenty of parking.
