If you ever want to eat Neapolitan again, I would definitely suggest visiting this place. The Neapolitan here is cooked right on a hot iron plate, which also cooks the yolk of a raw egg. Plus, it helps the food to not cool down quickly. The pork cutlet was very tender and didn’t have a strong pork smell. The sauce had a strong ginger flavor, which felt a bit unique to me. The atmosphere of this place feels like a German restaurant that’s over 100 years old. And all the staff are very friendly. The drawings on the menu, which look hand-drawn, stimulate a sense of analog nostalgia.

This Western restaurant has an impressive building that is completely surrounded by greenery. There is a chain called Grill Ippei, but they have separate websites so I think they are run by a different company. This is a popular restaurant that fills up quickly even on weekdays. There are many solo customers so the turnover isn’t too bad. However, it gets hectic right after opening as orders fill up all at once. Despite that, the service was good and I was able to enjoy a pleasant meal.
The elaborate sauce is delicious, as you would expect from a Western restaurant. The rice is a little questionable, but for something this carefully made these days, a set meal starting from 1,000 yen is reasonable. There is a paid parking lot nearby, but be careful as it fills up quickly.

Griel Ippei, Amagasaki Branch

This restaurant originated from the post-war Kansai tradition of Western-style cuisine, later taking root in Amagasaki during a period of rapid economic growth. Amagasaki was a typical industrial city, and workers needed substantial, flavorful, and reasonably priced meals after get off work; Western-style cuisine perfectly filled this need. It’s not a French restaurant, but rather a “town-style Western-style meal”—making Western food a staple.

The heart of the restaurant is its homemade Demigras sauce. Beef bones and vegetables are slow-cooked for a long time, resulting in a rich, slightly bitter flavor that isn’t overly sweet. The signature dish, Beef Cutlet, revolves around this sauce: a thin, crispy outer coating, while the beef inside remains tender. Dipped in the dark sauce, it immediately becomes rich and substantial. Served with a bowl of white rice, it offers a typical Showa-era sense of satisfaction.

This dish lacks fancy plating, yet represents the aesthetics of an industrial city—substantial, stable, and repetitively reliable. Many regulars have been ordering this beef katsu for decades. Its value lies not in its stunning appearance, but in the time it has been refined.

◎ Service Lunch (Daily Special) ¥1,000 (tax included)
(Chicken cutlet with demi-glace sauce, white fish gratin sauce, omelet, potato salad, ham and lettuce salad, rice)

From the moment I arrived at the restaurant, I could sense something extraordinary. A line 15 minutes before opening… Everyone here knows what’s good. The chef himself opened the door and greeted me with a “Welcome!” I was immediately captivated. Stylish chanson and classical music played quietly throughout the restaurant, and Western-style paintings adorned the walls. It’s not flashy, but it’s a strangely calming, sophisticated space.

Now, the all-important service lunch.
This was truly “authentic Western cuisine” that truly captured a man’s heart.

■ Chicken Cutlet with Demi-Glace Sauce
The batter was crispy, and the meat was soft and juicy. It was piping hot, and the rich flavor of the demi-glace spread with every bite. I nearly exclaimed, “Delicious!” This is a manly dish that packs a punch.
■ Fried White Fish with Gratin Sauce
Fluffy white fish topped with a creamy gratin sauce. It’s the perfect temperature, neither too hot nor too lukewarm. The gentle flavor complements the chicken cutlet perfectly.
■ Omelette
Soft and sweet, it’s comforting the moment you put it in your mouth. I wonder why Western-style omelets are so comforting.
■ Potato Salad
Moist, with a good balance of ingredients. It’s so well-made that it could easily be a whole dish on its own.
■ Ham and Lettuce Salad
Crunchy lettuce and moist ham. The coolness is just right, and the first bite instantly soothes the body.
■ Rice
Plump and perfectly cooked, it pairs perfectly with any dish. It’s the “unsung hero” of the dish.

The overall colours were beautiful, with a perfect balance of white, yellow, brown and green, and the moment I saw it I knew “this is a hit.” The more I ate, the more I felt the careful work and sincerity put into this lunch.

My honest impression was that it made me happily comment, “Isn’t this a bit too extravagant for a service lunch?” It was unpretentious, yet delicious. It was that kind of “manly Western food.”

This Western restaurant has a very unique exterior.
I wonder if it’s a branch of the main store in Sannomiya?

We visited around noon on a weekday, and the first floor of the two floors was full, so we were shown to the second floor.

The menu was extensive and I wasn’t sure what to eat, but I decided to go with the ladies’ set my wife ordered. It was like a kids’ lunch for adults, and everything I had was delicious.

I’d like to stop by again next time I’m in the area.

I went with a friend.
I’ve been to the Sannomiya restaurant a few times, but this one had a great atmosphere and a nice interior.
I ordered the Ippei lunch ☀️ and the daily lunch special.
The Ippei lunch came with a hamburger steak, white fish, and fried shrimp and was very satisfying and delicious.
My friend said the daily special was also very filling and delicious.
I also wanted to try the Italian spaghetti served on a hot plate.

I came from Fukui on a business trip.
I wanted to have lunch at a proper restaurant, so I came here.
I had the Ippei lunch.
With crispy pork cutlet, curry sauce, fried shrimp, fried white fish, ham, potato salad, pickles, and spaghetti, I was satisfied even before eating! Once I ate, I was doubly satisfied and glad I came!

The clientele was good, with elegant, mature couples, businessmen, and even people in work clothes like us.

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, any occasion. We left satisfied with everything from the menu to the ambiance, service, and exterior of the restaurant.

We entered the restaurant around 11:45, and there were only counter seats available on the first floor. We were shown to the second floor, which was about 80% full.

I felt this was a restaurant with many repeat customers, making me want to return.

This Western restaurant had the perfect atmosphere and food, like something out of a morning drama.
The cream croquette was delicious!
You can add rice and soup for an additional fee.

It’s a two-story restaurant, with a counter and tables on the first floor and table seating on the second.
There’s a piano on the second floor, and we enjoyed the old-fashioned, slightly elegant atmosphere.
It felt like we were dining in a cultural building.
It was a very satisfying lunch. There was a huge menu, and it was hard to choose. I’ll come again!
