The dining room to the high tops and we were moved swiftly and easily. Their bread also gets a shoutout as that crusty crispy boo was delicious. Also the music was one banger after another which I loved. Great place for a first date cause if you don’t enjoy your company you get good music, food, and drinks. It’s a win I’d say
Came here on a Thursday and loved the live music, cozy lighting, and overall vibe check = passed ✅
The bread with pesto olive oil was a delicious starter, simple but elevated
We shared the burrata wrapped in prosciutto with veggies, super tasty but I do wish there was more of that salty meat goodness
For dinner, I had the GV Chicken — really flavorful and juicy! Portion of chicken was huge, but it felt a little lonely without a side to match
Cute spot for a date night, girls’ night, or just a chill night out. Would def come back for the atmosphere alone! ️
We ordered our drinks and we knew what we wanted for appetizers and main course so ordering “all at once” wasn’t an issue. We ordered everything to share. First came our drinks, we got the pumpkin espresso martinis. I was a little disappointed as I had asked if we could change the base spirit to tequila, to which the server replied “no”, so I asked if it was pre batched and she said yes. I understand not wanting to alter the integrity of the cocktail and I also totally understand that if something is pre batched then it’s even more impossible to change it so I said that was fine but I mentioned vodka, assuming that was the base spirit and she didn’t correct me. My fault for not fully reading the menu I guess, but it turned out to be rum. Fine. I wasn’t thrilled, but didn’t complain. The cocktail tasted nice, but probably not something I’d order again. It was too creamy and too sweet for my taste.
We were then served bread and olive oil. I’ve seen reviews saying it’s great, but I found the bread to be dry and hard and the olive oil was quite flavorless. Again, wasn’t thrilled but would never complain about that.
Our Caesar salad comes out and it looks great! We start eating and it seemed like there wasn’t any dressing on it, but then suddenly there was a lot of dressing all in one spot. I guess we failed to mix the salad before serving myself so that’s something to note and maybe that’s something the server could have told us, but again, I didn’t bother saying anything. It wasn’t a big deal since there was dressing on the salad after all.
What truly bothered me, was that after 30 minutes of enjoying our salad, we hadn’t seen our server and there was no sign of our main courses coming. Initially I liked that we weren’t being rushed, but then I realized we had been forgotten about. It was difficult to get other servers attention, so we wound up getting help from a very nice busboy instead. He apologized about it and sent another server to the table who told us our food would be right out. Still our original server was nowhere to be found.
Our appetizer was cleared, and our food arrived but it was not what we had ordered. They served us fish, and the person I was with, is highly allergic to fish. The same busboy, who seemed to be the only person truly paying attention to the tables at the time, again apologized and got help. We were told that our server had put in fish as our order instead of the short rib dish we ordered.
We got the gnocchi we ordered, which was good and then shortly afterwards, our short rib. What was nice is we weren’t rushed, and the people who took care of us after our server disappeared were very apologetic and recovered her mistakes fairly quickly. All of this is to say that, our experience would have been much better had it not been for our neglectful server.
1 star off for our servers bad attitude and neglect, and another for the food. I think overall it has potential for 4 stars, food is decent and maybe even amazing depending on the dish. I’m not against giving it another try, since my experience could be based on an off night.
To start, this restaurant is our happy place. We come here about once a week ether to have dinner or enjoy a drink at the bar. So, when we were considering having an engagement party, we knew it would have to be at Grand Vin.
Decor reminds me of Napa, like a slightly rustic (but also super classy) wine bar. You don’t even need much decor because the string lights and greenery throughout the restaurant set the perfect, romantic vibe.
The service is top-notch, Amanda and Mike (the managers) were communicative and so helpful organizing everything. I was able to drop off decor the day prior and then leave everything fully in their hands to execute. We spent about the first 45 mins or so of the party hanging out in the bar area with passed appetizers, then were all seated in the dining room for the meal. They timed all of the courses perfectly and the portions were incredibly generous!
The food is insanely good; everyone kept talking about it. I dream of that sea bass and gnocchi all the time!
We had about 45 people seated in their back dining area, but they can fit a bit more than that if you rent out the whole space. There is also a parking garage about a block away (a SUPER huge plus for all Hoboken venues!).
