Reviews
We received confirmation of our reservation the day prior and so were comfortable walking up to the restaurant today. However upon arrival they went to seat us at a table when they had confirmed with us one of the cabana/plunge pool packages. After some back and forth with a very disgruntled hostess and management they informed us the package we had booked wasn’t available, and that there had been some miscommunication between their staff that led to this, but acted as though the whole thing was our fault.
We went ahead with lunch anyway (we hadn’t schedule our taxi to come back to get us for 4 hours). They comped us our first drink by way of apology, but the staff was anything but welcoming the whole time.
The food, which had such high reviews online, was mediocre. The only standout of the items we ordered was the pork belly, which admittedly was excellent. However the shrimp was mushy (not sure how you do that to shrimp), the truffle Mac and cheese was bland and the pasta wasn’t just Al dente, it was simply undercooked. The guacamole had no seasoning to speak of. The potatoes were nice and crispy, but nothing we couldn’t make at home.
Since we couldn’t hang out at the pool as we expected we just walked down to the nearby public beach to enjoy the rest of our time until the taxi picked us up.
Honestly we could have saved ourselves time and money and had our lunch and drinks on the ship for an equal or better experience.
The staff was excellent
HOWEVER Earl (the supervisor of Sheer Rocks restaurant) followed us out and asked that we given them another try… and we’re glad we did.
Our second attempt was MUCH better. We arrived at 5 pm and Earl personally sat us at a table with a gorgeous view of sunset for drinks pre dinner before sitting down for dinner at 5:30 pm at a neighboring table. My husband and I enjoyed the two course meal each – the pea and ham risotto was delicious, as was the red snapper and lobster ravioli entrees (albeit VERY pricey…) – think $280 USD for two. In future should we return, we may sit at the bar and just enjoy the a la carte tapas.
BIG thanks again to Earl and his team for making our visit so very enjoyable.
But now the menu is better, staff are more chatty and the atmosphere plus the views makes this place a must visit in my book!! Special mention to the supervisor who let us chill out at the bar early before our booking and elvis.
The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. For a special occasion they gave us a free glass of prosecco after the meal which was lovely.
We had the ravioli and the fish. Both were very tasty. The highlight was the passionfruit tart for dessert. The ice cream was full of vanilla beans and the tart was light and tangy.
Portions are small but delicious. In particular wine by the glass is free poured and is very very small.
Overall, it’s worth going for the view alone!
