I had another great experience at El Sombrero Restaurant Tex Mex Bar & Grill, and this visit really confirmed how good the food is. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and whenever I needed something, they were there right away. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
This time I tried several vegetarian options, including the enchilada, chimichanga, quesadilla, and burrito, and everything was amazing. Each dish was full of flavor and clearly made with care. The chimichanga was perfectly cooked and incredibly satisfying, the quesadilla was cheesy and fresh, and the enchilada and burrito were just as delicious. As a vegetarian, it was refreshing to have so many great options that did not feel limited or boring.
The restaurant itself has a great vibe with music playing in the background and a cozy yet lively atmosphere. The bar area adds to the overall experience, and the space is extremely clean and family friendly, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to family and friends, especially to vegetarians. They are very accommodating and happy to adjust dishes based on dietary needs. I will definitely be coming back again.

ordered two salmon taco plates (which came with three tacos each, so six total) and a 12-piece chipotle wings combo with fries. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty disappointing overall. The salmon tacos tasted okay flavor-wise, but they were very dry. They really needed more sauce or some kind of slaw to balance them out. They weren’t terrible, just underwhelming and not something I’d order again. The bigger issue was the wings and fries. The chipotle wings were soggy instead of crispy, which made them feel heavy and unappetizing. The fries were also oily and soggy, almost like they had been sitting out for a while. Overall, the food wasn’t inedible, but it definitely didn’t feel fresh or worth the price. I was hoping for better quality, especially with simple items like wings and fries.

The food was so good. We had the platter with the sampler. Everything was well seasoned, juicy, soft and tasty. The owner came over to introduce himself and even provided recommendations. The sampler was a lot for my family of 5 (1 toddler). I would definitely revisit if able.

This was a fantastic find! Our server, Amanda, was so nice and efficient. Our food was delicious and the owner, Luis, came by to welcome us. The empanadas reminded me of my moms and the burrito was glorious. Wonderful dining experience!!

Absolutely horrible!! Will never go back. Had to wait about 30 minutes just to get a glass of water! Our waitress finally took our order and we didn’t see her again until it was time to get our check! One of the kitchen staff FINALLY brought out our food, which we have had much better Mexican in other Mexican restaurants. They use canola oil in their foods which made it very limited on what I could eat. Highly allergic to canola. Not a healthy oil by any means. So hence the bad rating.

My husband and I just went here for a late lunch and the food was phenomenal! Everything was fresh, delicious and made to perfection. We both got steak fajitas and they were great. Both the steak and the veggies were cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend!!

Quite possibly the best Tex-Mex food I’ve ever had!
Visiting friends and family upstate, my cousin brought me to El Sombrero for a quick bite and a couple of cocktails. When you walk in, you are greeted by friendly staff and a warm and inviting atmosphere.
We opted for the bar seating, where Jose, the bartender, would take care of us for the rest of the night. He is amazing!! He made the best spicy margarita I’ve ever had (made with Casamigos jalapeno tequila) with the perfect amount of bite where you fall in love with every sip. Our orders were taken quickly and the food came out at the perfect intervals where we were never without something to snack on or drink.
We were expecting to get chips and salsa, but the owner came by and provided us with a super special snack (I forget the name), and a bit of conversation. Luis is the best example of what a business owner should be. He was kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to meet his clients. I informed him that I’m visiting from Texas and he took it as a personal challenge to impress me with our meal.
Mission accomplished! I typically order a chicken burrito to test the mettle of Tex-Mex restaurants as a baseline for the rest of the menu. The chicken was tender, juicy, and had the perfect amount of seasoning. My cousin ordered the sampler plate with an amazing variety of meats that were far superior to any I’ve had in recent memory. Why? It turns out that Luis is a licensed butcher and he personally chooses every bit of meat that enters his establishment. Not only that, but every bit of sauce, marinade, and dressing is made in-house.
We loved the food so much, that we went back for lunch three days later – the day before I returned to Texas. I had the birria as well as traditional chicken and beef tacos. The birria is stunning and probably the greatest star of our two meals. The ground beef is also miles better than most. This is largely due to Luis choosing a specific cut of beef that he uses to maximize its flavor.
After we were done eating, Luis was also gracious enough to take us for a tour of his restaurant. Like a proud papa he took us through the history of the remodel of the, once-upon-a-time, Dodge Inn and all of the hurdles he went through. The result is a fantastic little hideaway where you can bring your entire family to enjoy a spectacular meal or even have a party. I should note that the fireplace room is a great venue for anyone looking for an event space.
I could go on, but I’ll wrap it up by saying this: Just go. You won’t be disappointed. It’ll be the first place I visit when I go back upstate.

We stumbled upon this place by accident. The owner needs to make sure this place pops up as a restaurant with just a simple google search.
The wait staff incredibly friendly and attentive. Service was top notch, food was delicious and their drinks were tasty.
The sampler was delicious. The one person sampler is good for two people as well. The steak, chicken and shrimp were absolutely delicious.
The decor is a bit bland but their instrumental Mexican music was a nice addition to the ambiance. I wish they would play the original tracks of some of the songs played.
If you’re in the area or looking for some good Mexican food; then come to El Sombrero.
