Everything seemed quite fresh. The prawn tempura was tasty. The fried chicken was good and the rice had a really good fragrance to it. I don’t feel like the sweet chili sauce worked well though. The broth on the side was subtle and good.
I wasn’t crazy about the pad Thai, it light just be my tastes, I don’t like sweets things in my mains. But it seemed fresh. The fries I had on the side were of a good portion and fine. The small bit of duck I tasted was good and I don’t usually like duck. The portion sizes were pretty good, especially for the price, great value. I ordered far too much.
The restaurant was just very very cold. I only noticed before I left that there was a space heater behind me that the waiter did not bother to turn on for us, so docking a star for that.
Absolutely delicious food and a lovely atmosphere.
The dishes were full of authentic Thai flavours, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Everything we tried was perfectly seasoned and incredibly tasty. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. Friendly service and a really pleasant dining experience overall. Highly recommended!
The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes were also good.
Overall we were really impressed and will definitely be back!
1. I ordered a plate of Pad Pak Boong for £11.95. The portion was so tiny that even an appetizer from elsewhere would be larger. The taste was overly salty, completely lacking in wok hei, and the size was downright disappointing.
2. A Thai restaurant without boat noodles is already surprising. Instead, they served me something “similar,” but it was nowhere near authentic. The flavor leaned overly sweet, and the portion was so small it felt like a kids’ meal—all for £11.95.
3. There wasn’t even proper Thai fried rice on the menu. They simply mixed basil pork with rice and called it fried rice. It had none of the fragrance or authentic Thai flavor you’d expect, and astonishingly, the so-called basil pork rice had no basil aroma at all—again, £11.95.
The only thing that met the standard was the service staff, who were genuinely good.
As a big fan of Thai food who has tried many Thai restaurants across the UK, this was by far the worst experience I’ve had.
The food was excellent and reasonably priced. I had the beef Pad Thai, which came with generous portions of beef. While the beef itself was slightly lacking in flavour, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the sauce coated them beautifully, giving each bite a satisfying balance of sweet, savoury, and tangy.
The Gang Massaman chicken curry was the star of the evening, rich, aromatic, and deeply flavourful with a hint of sweetness and gentle spice. The chicken was tender and plentiful, making it a real standout dish.
Will definitely be returning to explore more of the menu. A must-try if you’re in Derby and looking for authentic Thai cuisine.
When we arrived, there was only one other person eating. We checked the menu outside and took a chance. Best decision. The food was unreal. Fresh, full of flavour and clearly cooked with care. The service was warm, friendly and genuinely welcoming.
For two of us we had 3 drinks, 3 starters and 2 mains (big portions) for £40. You cannot fault that value. Also, the green tea was huge!
Brilliant food, brilliant service. I will be recommending The Good Thai to everyone and I cannot wait to go back.
