Our server was wonderful, the food came out quickly, and the portions were generous enough that many of us brought home leftovers for another meal. There was also acoustic music playing, which added a really nice touch—it was enjoyable without being too loud, and we could still easily hear each other across the table.
Overall, it was a comfortable and welcoming place to spend the evening without feeling rushed or like we were inconveniencing anyone. Five stars for sure!
Sad that it was a miserable experience.
I had 2 drinks and an overpriced salad but that’s OK as I expected both to be on the high $ side. I had some conversation with another diner and then decided to pay and leave. I don’t usually even look at my check but I was a little curious and then surprised to see that they charged me for 3 drinks – not the 2 I actually received. That was fine as they corrected the bill, which I paid.
My conversation got interesting so I decided to stay and order another drink. I finished the 1 additional drink and when I picked up my check I was astonished to see that once again they were charging me for 1 more drink than I actually received.
I pointed out the error but they refused to adjust the check properly. Ordinarily I would have stood up for what was right but in this case I just paid the bill and left with a very bad taste in my mouth. My impression is that overcharging at Merrill’s Tavern is a common practice. Too bad because I would have become a regular there and now I’m not sure I want to patronize the golf course either. It’s entirely possible that deliberate overcharging runs rampant throughout the entire facility.
