The V Café: Authentic Vietnamese Flavors in Dubois’ Cozy VFW Spot
Reviews
Who knew that one of the most unforgettable Vietnamese dining experiences in the country would be tucked away in the cozy town of Dubois, WY? This unassuming little spot might look modest from the outside, but the moment you walk through the door, the air is filled with the warm, aromatic promise of lemongrass, star anise, and slow-simmered broth — a sure sign you’re about to eat very well.
Every dish at The V Cafe feels like a love letter to authentic Vietnamese flavors, prepared with precision and heart. The pho is nothing short of a revelation — a silky, fragrant broth layered with deep, soulful complexity that could easily compete with Saigon’s finest.
It’s the little touches that make this place special — the owner greeting you like an old friend, and the care that goes into every plate. You can taste the pride in every bite.
⭐ Must-try dishes: Pho bò, Bo Luc Lac, Pork Eggrolls
⭐ Vibe: Cozy, welcoming, and full of heart.
⭐ Verdict: Worth the drive, the detour, and every delicious bite.
We can’t wait to visit Dubois again and make this a part of our trip!
Kim Chi and her husband Elvis are the owners of the V Caffè located in the VFW in the town of Dubois, Wyoming.
This seemingly unassuming hidden gem in Wyoming will surprise you in more ways than one. The first day I walked in, I was greeted by Kim’s warm smile and a warm welcome. I took a look at the menu with its many flavorful options and ordered the garlic noodles with lemongrass pork. She rang me up and said, “Thank you, Jon, I’ll have that right out to you,” a simple but important statement, which I’ll address shortly.
Since the V Caffè is located in the same building as the VFW, I sat at the bar and grabbed a Pepsi from another amazing resident of Duboi, Alda. Alda is from Belgium and has made dubois her home after immigrating to the US. If you have the pleasure of meeting her, you will be greeted with a big warm smile and a wonderful personality. She is truly a sweetheart.
After only a few minutes of introductions with her, Kim brought my order out to me. I was greeted with a piping hot freshly made plate that not only looked and smelled amazing but was even more delicious than I had anticipated. Needless to say, it was quickly inhaled with nothing but a clean plate left behind.
It was clear after one simple plate I would be returning for more.
In my life, I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel for various jobs. In doing so, there are two things I always seek out in my travels… good food and good people. In my just about 60 days I’ve spent in Dubois, I would say a good 40+ have been spent at the V Caffè and VFW.
Why? Well, getting back to the first time I met Kim and she thanked me by name for my order, without asking it, I knew something was going to be different. She took the time not only to get to know me but also to know everyone who comes in. With around 500 people extra in town for the fire that was going on, this was no easy task and made it feel very personal and special. I tried almost the entire menu and all the specials while I was there and was always amazed by everything.
The combination of Kim’s passion for food and people is hard to find and was such a treat in a small town.
If you decide to dine here, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Tell Kim Jon Brown sent you and see her light up with Joy.
I felt a bit like a poser eating at a VFW as the privilege wasn’t earned, even though they’re open to the public.
The Pho? Amazing. My sister (who usually barely eats half a bowl) finished the whole thing.
The vermicelli is amazing. The lemongrass noodles are amazing.
There are two entrances – one through the VFW and to the left and the other through a door that’s propped open by a cinderblock on the left side of the building, circled in red in the picture.
