Huntsville, Texas is my hometown and home to a lot of great Mexican restaurants. But sometimes you want something different, something that still has a Latin American feel without being just another Tex-Mex option.
That’s where Carbonero comes in. I’ve been a fan of Carbonero for over ten years and have ordered a wide variety of dishes. I’ve seen some reviews complain that they didn’t like the salsa, or that the queso isn’t like other restaurants, but honestly, that’s exactly what I like about it. Carbonero is different, and it’s really good.
If you want solid advice on what to order, this is it: my family’s go-to is the “Two pupusas and chaufa rice” meal from the lunch menu (you can order it anytime). If you’re not familiar, pupusas are a pan-fried dough filled with cheese and meat (we always get the pork, but I have tried others and they are all good). The chaufa rice is similar to chicken fried rice and is very good. The plate also comes with curtido, a lightly pickled cabbage and veggie mix. If you like a little spice, ask for a cup of the green sauce and pour it over or dip the pupusas in it. There is also a white tangy sauce some people enjoy.
The service is always warm and welcoming, the food is consistently hot and excellent, and that’s why I’d go so far as to say Carbonero is my family’s top choice when eating out in Huntsville, Texas.

The pupusas here are phenomenal! Seriously the best I’ve ever had. Great service, great experience. The only flaw with this restaurant is the ceiling in bathrooms. Needs some work but I’m still giving it a 5/5!

My favorite. Papusas are only 2.99 unless you order door dash as i must do now since im unable to leave my house. Between dd charging me 5 each plus tax & fees dd also charges extra for pork & the spicy slaw. it came out to $21 for 2 papusas. I canceled & from now on I will only order directly from restaurant when i have someone to pick up for me. The papusas are phenomenal & if the restaurant price was $5 i would be good but dd charges extra $2 each & thats ridiculous

I always get the chaufa rice with 3 meats, and you must get the yellow sauce with that. I just recently tried the pupusas and omg, the pork ones are so delicious! My other half enjoys the chicken and steamed rice but we will be adding pupusas from now on.

All I wanted was rotisserie chicken and it was good, I was expecting a burst of flavor and juicy. I didn’t get that but I wanted something healthy and it served it’s purpose. The steak and shrimp is delicious and tender from a previous visit. I do recommend them.

Highly recommend this hidden gem! We ordered the 8.99 rotisserie chicken with 2 sides and it did not disappoint! All four of us ordered different sides and each was very pleased! 8.99 for 1/4 chicken, 10.99 for 1/2 chicken.
Better prices than the lunch menu but they do offer a variety of options on the lunch menu, if you want something different than rotisserie chicken.

The best pupusas in town! My favorite are the shrimp and cheese. Chaffa rice on the side and fried plantains round out my usual meal. The green sauce has some heat, but it is a must have on the pupusas. The white sauce is fabulous on the rice. Don’t pass up this place!
