My parents and I went to HAMA for an early dinner Tuesday night around 530. Sushi was fresh and delicious, service was great and attentive. Establishment was clean and presentable. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant for an affordable quality meal while in midtown Manhattan. Definitely will return here when I’m back in the city!

Taste wise it was not the best sushi but the athmosphere and being close to the center is good. Staff was so polite and service was quick enough.
Thank you

Excellent spot for lunch or dinner. The sushi lunch special is a great value and comes with your choice of miso soup or salad. The sushi is fresh and well prepared, and the service is efficient. There is bar seating as well as tables, making it easy whether you are dining solo or with others. You will often see plenty of business folks here, which says a lot

Friendly and courteous staff, always enjoyed the ambiance here. Great wine selection and the sushi is top notch. The cooked fish is delicious too. Dessert is a nice complement. Came here before a Broadway show, so definitely a pleasure since the servers helped to accomodate our needs.

I thought the food was very good. The sushi seemed fresh and we enjoyed everything we ordered. The prices are very reasonable for the area and the staff treated us very warmly. It also had a nice atmosphere and I enjoyed being in the basement, removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. EDIT: We came again a year later and the food is still just as good. The sushi was fresh and the udon soup was delicious. Also, it was so cozy warm in here, which was a nice reprieve from the January wind outside.

Obviously not the BEST sushi I have had in my life but still fairly delicious. I would say it is rather good bang for your buck and good value for your money. Got a sashimi and sushi lunch with either salad or soup for $30 and you can get the omakase lunch for $39. I came here for a team lunch and I thought it was fairly good.

Wow. What an experience. Intimate, 19-seat Omakase (chef’s choice, fixed price) Japanese sushi meal – although à la carte sushi choices are available.

The fish is very fresh, our sushi chef knowledgeable and engaging, guiding us through each of his selections. The servers delightful and prompt. Our water glasses were refilled before we needed to ask.

We particularly loved the salmon, the hamachi, the sea bream, the botan ebi ( shrimp), and the handcrafted seaweed, freshly wrapped salmon roll up All standouts, but truthfully, we enjoyed it all. For $75 you get 13 courses: a very good deal. While each course is small, 13 courses later we left fully satisfied and completely content.

If you like fresh sushi, seek it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Hot Sake and Sapporo on draft, already a winning combination.

The Miso soup is very good.
The sashimi is cut pretty thin, but it’s delicious, and the presentation is nice.
The Omakase I had was less of a thrilling chef’s specialty for the evening but instead consisted of various nigiri pieces from the menu arranged on a platter. And there is nothing wrong with that. It’s a good way to get to see the rest of the nigiri on the menu. I was just expecting a little more imagination.

The atmosphere is cozy and warm, and everything is very clean.

The service was excellent.

Overall, it’s very, very, very good, and I do recommend them.
I only deducted a star due to the Omakase experience as my expectations were high.

One thing that I noticed is that the restaurant doesn’t have handicapped access, so just be aware of that.

Stumbled across this place while I was in the area, I saw the happy hour sign and originally just came in for a Sapporo. You walk down the stairs, and inside you find an inviting quiet sushi bar and around 15 tables. The host came right over and got us seated. After looking at the menu, my friend and I decided to try some sushi dishes. We couldn’t resist.

We got
– the gyoza (pretty small portion)
– yellow sashimi with jalapeño
– salmon usuzukuri
– tuna tataki
– yellow jalapeño roll
– shrimp tempura roll
– yuzu salmon roll

We will definitely be back! I hear they have a pretty good lunch special as well.

After a Broadway show we arrived in a hurry for they were somewhat close to closing time. They accommodated us and served us well even though the time. Its a very classy sushi restaurant in the lower basement in the Rockefeller Center area. The sushi and sashimi were fresh and appealing. Loved everything about this restaurant.
