My husband and I shared a truly great evening here. We were drawn to the elegance and cleanliness of the restaurant. We really felt like we were in Italy! The food was truly amazing, very authentic and fresh. The tiramisu had been made that morning and was delightful. The proprietor made us feel right at home. We can’t wait to return!!

I ordered a dirty martini, which was mediocre—the bartender didn’t give me enough time to specify that I wanted it with gin, but I drank it anyway.

The shrimp and mushroom pasta with olive oil was pretty good, though I think it would’ve been better with pesto.

The calamari was okay but bland—good texture, just missing that bold, classic Italian flavor overall.

The service as ok. The host was amazing, the latin gentlemen they refilled our water was also nice. The waiter took a minute to warm up he was a little stand-offish.

After a long day battling city traffic and the blazing sun, ending the evening with a delicious dinner was the perfect reward. There was no wait—we were seated right away, menus and wine list in hand, ready for a food adventure.

Our waiter promptly brought out fresh bread with butter and a flavorful olive garlic oil, along with glasses of water to start. He shared the evening’s specials, and I was thrilled to see my favorite—Chicken Piccata—on the list. The chicken was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, and the sauce was absolutely divine.

I found a wine that paired beautifully with the meal, and the whole experience was made even better by sharing it with family. My husband ordered the clams and mussels and was just as impressed—no complaints, only love for this place. A must stop in my opinion.

Pleasant service and nice atmosphere. The filet mignon with veggies, polenta, and three shrimp was solid. Unfortunately, the tiramisu was inedible and had to be sent back, which dampened the overall experience.

Ristorante Buon Gusto offers an authentic Italian atmosphere that transports me back to last summer’s visit to Roma/Florenze, Italy. The food and great customer service were amazing, just an overall exciting experience. On business travel from the DMV, hope to visit again and try another appetizing dish before leaving SFO. I would recommend Ristorante Buon Gusto to other Italian foodies visiting the area. Thanks a bunch.

Just had the most insane experience at this place that ultimately ruined our Valentine’s Day dinner plans. Seemed like things were a hot mess when we got there; the host seemed surprised that there were people with reservations and started seating us at the most random tables meant for much larger parties, which I found kind of strange. I should’ve taken the hint much earlier when it took us 15 minutes to get the menu and then even longer for the guy to come back and take our orders; in that time, another couple who’d been seated near us just got up and left, which we should’ve done. All in all we waited about 1.5 hours with not even a drink delivered, which is truly astounding on its own, but when my boyfriend got up to ask them if we could cancel our order, it turns out the guy didn’t even put our orders in. I don’t even know what to say…how is a place like this still operating? And with pasta dishes with those prices?? Please be serious!!

Planned to eat here for Valentine’s Day with our 7PM reservation as expecting parents trying to enjoy one of our last few nights out, BUT somehow this turned into one of the worst dining experiences ever. It was almost comical. Lol.

The host (or manager? or server? honestly unclear because he was sprinting around all night) was simply not prepared for the evening— and wow, it showed. The chaos was next level.

1) He didn’t check reservations in an already packed foyer, rather just took people’s word for it. Immediate red flag.

2) He sat my husband and me at a perfectly good table for two. We settled in and hoping to get ready to order. However, he suddenly decided he didn’t like the table setup (?) and moved us across the restaurant to a booth clearly meant for a larger party. He then awkwardly seated two other couples near us. Meanwhile, I watched him seat another couple at our original table and take their order before us or the couples seat near us (who were all here first).

3) Around 7:30PM, he told us three couples seated nearby about the specials and promised to be back in “exactly three minutes” to take our orders. Spoiler: he did not return. A kind waiter at least brought water. The other two couples received bread and oil. We got oil… and no bread.

4) By 7:45PM, still no bread, no order taken (not even drinks), no service in sight. We came hungry. My husband had initially planned to order a glass of wine for Valentine’s Day, but given the level of dysfunction unfolding around us, even that felt pointless. So we left. (Shoutout to the taco trucks on Linden for saving the night.)

The irony is that the man who seated us proudly said he wanted to ensure every customer had a great experience. Unfortunately, that did not happen for us. On our way out, the foyer was even more packed than before and clearly not enough seating to accommodate everyone waiting.

Finally, even when we came last time on a much quieter night, there was still a level of dysfunction with wrong orders but thought food was somewhat decent so we wanted to give it another try; we should’ve known better. We genuinely hope others had a better experience, but we won’t be returning.

HORRIBLE dining experience!!
We had a truly awful time at this place, and left furious.
We got there around 7:30pm on a Friday and the place was empty except for two tables. There were no staff around and we waited for a while for someone to come and acknowledge us and give us a seat. It took almost 10 minutes for them to bring us menus and water, then another 10-15 minutes for someone to take our order. We each ordered cocktails, soup, and entrees. When the minestrones came out, it was cold. Another 10 minutes goes by and still no cocktails. We tell them to cancel the cocktails and bring us bottled beers instead because we want something to drink and didn’t want to keep waiting. Another 50 to 55 minutes go by and we are starving hungry and still no entrees. Not even anyone stopping by to tell us why it’s taking so long, to check on us, to offer us more water or anything. We were finally so fed up that we had to flag someone over to us and asked them to cancel our entrees and give us the check for what we consumed. We were so disappointed and so hungry that we needed to get out of there and get a fast bite somewhere else on the block. The owner comes by with the check, and tried to charge us for the cocktails we never got, and the entrees that never came out. We were appalled. The owner asked if there was an issue with the check, and we told him that we never received items he was trying to charge us for, not to mention we had terrible services: we never received our cocktails and had been in the restaurant almost 90 minutes and still no meals. We also pointed out that the restaurant was empty, and that we didn’t understand why things were taking such a ridiculously long time. The owner then told us that because my friend and I were talking to one another, he didn’t know when to bring our food. Are you kidding me?!?! What else are people supposed to do when they sit at a table in a restaurant and wait for their food?

My friend informed the owner that he had been going to Buon Gusto for over 20 years, and that his father had been going there for over 30 years. He said that he’s never had such horrendous service. The owner then became argumentative and rude and insulted my friend. We had enough! My friend paid for the soups and beers, and we left there pissed off. What a truly AWFUL experience.

The service and food were terrible. We came here on December 31st, 2025. The bruschetta was terrible, they gave my husband the wrong main dish, and the polenta on my main dish tasted really bad. It took them forever to bring me a glass of wine, and I had to remind them 3 times. At the end, I had 2 glasses of wine and they charged me for 5! I corrected them and then they still tried to charge me for 3, so I corrected them again. The staff tried, but the manager (or owner, not sure) was very rude, slow, and dismissive. I had to walk over and approach him to ask for the check because we waited for a while and nobody would come. When I approached him and asked, he was eating a dessert. He then took his time (easily 10+ minutes after I asked) to finish his dessert before he came and gave us the WRONG check twice, and he did it with the worst attitude ever. Not overreacting or lying, but this has been the worst restaurant experience my husband and I have ever had.

This is a very nice restaurant to have a delicious Italian inspired dinner at. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and elegant. I love the peekaboo element in the bar as you can see into the kitchen. Great food, great service, and overall great place to eat.
