We recently had our mother’s funeral luncheon here. I recommend this restaurant not only for our event but also for lunch or dinner too. The staff made our event effortless to plan. The food here is excellent and the staff very skilled. We had about 40 people and I was blown away how the staff really were able to serve a large crowd in a timely manner. We had the antipasto platter. Chicken Marsala and chicken Parmesan. The dishes were received with rave reviews by all. They made a special vegan and kiddie noodles to accommodate those issues. The tiramisu was the best I ever had. They also provided ice cream for those with allergies. We recently had lunch here and I can also recommend the spaghetti it was delicious. The food is outstanding. You can’t go wrong eating here. Kyle one of the servers was excellent

What an exquisite dining experience! We were in Libertyville for our son’a Navy graduation. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel manager, where we were staying. I called for a reservation and upon arrival we were greeted, the host welcomed us and our son was congratulated. Our server Jose was really helpful with recommendations, wine pairings- we had a wonderful dining experience. The food is incredible!!! We had the gnocchi pesto- wow! Everything was delicious! Loved everything about Restaurant Bottaio!

My recent visit to this Italian eatery offered a mixed bag of experiences, leading me to rate it 3 out of 5 stars. The highlights included a tomato sauce that was notably light and enjoyable, avoiding the heaviness often found in such sauces.

Additionally, the staff deserves commendation for their exceptional service, being both friendly and accommodating, which certainly added value to the dining experience. However, there were aspects that fell short of expectations. Several dishes, while okay, lacked the depth of flavor one anticipates in Italian cuisine. The soup, though freshly prepared and not from a can, was basic in taste and missing the quintessential Italian spices that could have elevated it.

Furthermore, the ambiance of the restaurant detracted from the overall comfort. Seated near the windows in an unheated area of the restaurant, the cold was a notable discomfort during my meal. This aspect of the dining environment could certainly use improvement, especially during colder months. In conclusion, while the service was a standout, the culinary experience and comfort of the dining space left room for improvement.

Therefore, a rating of 3 out of 5 stars seems fitting for this establishment.

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. No wait for seating. Plenty of parking. I have never had mediocre food there. Sadly, this visit was not memorable. Their spaghetti and meatballs dish is too salty, meatballs are small and not much flavor. Olive Garden has better meatballs. I wonder if they have new owners.

My girlfriend and I went here on a whim last night while on our way home. We were immediately greeted at the door and by multiple servers while being brought to our table. I first noted that the prices on the menu were very reasonable. But reasonable prices, paired with rich service and absolutely delightful plates are really what made this place phenomenal. Our waiter boxed everything up for us, made sure our waters were full at all times, and had the perfect combination of attentiveness while letting us be to enjoy our meal. Everything was authentic, fresh, and even though the restaurant was completely full, the table seemed to be full with food almost immediately. I cannot recommend this establishment enough. My only regret is not getting our servers name so I could truly give him the praise he deserves!!

Went there to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, she had a craving for some good Italian food, she said. Ever since we went to Italy last year she is hooked on Italian cuisine. So let me tell you this was not it.
First off I am not keen on restaurants with poor lighting, everything was dark. Had to keep the menu inches from my face to be able to read it.
Appetizers to stay away from; grilled octopus and baked shrimp. Octopus tasted like something from a frozen section at your local grocery store. Off white, rubbery with a really strong fishy taste. Not a grill mark on it and when served as an appetizer shouldn’t it be still warm from the grill? I don’t think it spent a minute on a grill. Bleh. Baked shrimp was covered in a soggy mess of uncooked bread crumbs and butter. Bleh. My salad with Italian dressing was drenched in what tasted like pure vinegar and sprinkled with something red and tasteless. It looked like red food coloring, not kidding. Entrée veal was ok, but the mashed potatoes were a strange mix of warm and cool sections, weird. Veggies were way undercooked, especially the carrots. I was almost a hand to hand combat trying to cut into a larger piece with a knife. My daughter’s pasta sauce looked liked pureed tomatoes straight from the can. No herbs or spices anywhere in it. All other entrée were barely ok. The saving grace was the complementary slice of tiramisu. It tasted fresh and not too sweet. At $70 per person and 6 of us it is not what I expected. Will not go back and I recommend looking for a better Italian restaurant. I’m not a food critic, just a guy who cooks a lot and enjoys good food. I hope your experiences were better than ours. Thanks for reading.
