Incredible does not begin to describe the whole evening. After a “less than perfect” experience at a different one star Michelin restaurant in DC, we were hoping for a great night. Causa was way beyond any expectations. From being acknowledged for our special celebration by EVERY team member, to the best service we’ve experience in a long line of Michelin starred places, to the most delicious and interesting tour of Peru, where every bite was a 10 (including perhaps one of the best desserts we’ve ever had), this is a restaurant you don’t want to miss. The fish add on was absolutely worth it! Thank you for a memorable evening, we will be back!!

Incredible food and service. Good lord the service was impeccable and eat of the dishes had a wonderful story and history behind it. The NA pairing was incredibly unique and for once paired perfectly with each dish to an almost shocking degree. All the small bites were just so unique and delicious. Wagyu was perfectly cooked. First time in a while I’ve been that full. I’d love to come back

Service here is exceptional. I had the menu explained from front to back by Tony, and I asked for recommendations and was given some great choices, most of which I went with. One of the items I was thinking about was gifted by the chef. The Scallops were particularly delectable, like nothing I’ve had. The salmon belly skewer melted in my mouth. Ceviche Amazonia came together nice…. I also tried the Lomo saltado and that was really good as well. The drinks were had my first Pisco Sour and El cacao was very good. I left stuffed and Ashley was amazing, making all of her tables feel special. I even got a follow-up email from Carly thanking me for visiting. This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in recent memory. I can’t wait to go back!

Amazonia was such an amazing experience from the host to the decor to the food, and especially our server, Michael. We went for RW and honestly almost every dish stood out. The Peruvian scallops, salmon belly anticuchos, ribs, and lomo saltado were all hits, but the real highlight for me was the dessert the chocolucuma (SO good- we were fighting for the last bite) lol.
I tried the pisco sour and the Café Cusco, and both were great. Michael was incredible, super knowledgeable about the food and the history behind it, which really made the experience even better.
We sat on the outdoor patio, and it was a little cold even with the heaters and blankets, but that’s honestly the only downside I can think of. And the decor? It literally feels like an Amazonian wonderland- so cute and immersive. Overall, such an amazing time. Would absolutely go back.

Giving it 5 stars for some super outstanding dishes that we tried: the pulpo, salmon belly and macambo (!!) dessert. Incredible flavors, textures, and love for ingredients and region came thru. Server was super knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Liked the vibe & ambiance… rooftop was warm even in winter! Blankets were a cute touch. Drinks were yummy. Scallops were good but were overpowered by parmesan. Shrimp pasta special should have had more shrimp for the price. Pork belly was good but not extra special.

Visited on January 18, 2024. Causa, a one-star Michelin Guide restaurant tucked into Blagden Alley, occupies the first floor below Amazonia. With a limited number of tables and fresh seafood on display, the room feels spacious yet intimate.

The menu offers a contemporary interpretation of Peruvian cuisine rooted in both coastal and highland traditions. Seafood courses draw on classic ceviche through acidity and freshness, while highland influences appear in dishes built around tubers, grains, and slow-cooked preparations. Corn appears across the menu in multiple forms, moving from savory courses into dessert, including a purple corn ice cream.

Causa stands as the most elevated and creatively executed Peruvian dining experience in Washington, DC.

5 stars for 5 reasons

1. We arrived 1 hour late and they called to inform me that the table is no longer available and that we would have seats available at the bar which was fine. They could have easily turns us away.

2. Everything we ordered was really good!
Madurito is amazing! Must order! Patacones was delicious! Lobster was fantastic, fresh, and flavorful!
Good drinks as well:)

3. The bartenders were super attentive, very nice, and knowledgeable.

4. The atmosphere is awesome! Really a great place to date a nice date here.

5. Price and quality is all worth it:)

After 8 days in DC and a bunch of restaurants, Amazônia was the best by far. It offers creative Peruvian dishes, bursting with flavors and colors. There wasn’t anything we tried that was not delicious. But the ceviche amazonico and the pulpo al olivo were top. Great service, nice decor, plenty of choice for drinks and wine. And it opens until late. Warmly recommended.

Really wanted to give this a 5- bit for the price, the main food dishes left a lot to be desired. The desserts were really good, as were the appetisers- the main entree left a lot to be desired in terms of flavour. The service was very good as was the atmosphere and it’s definitely a place to come celebrate more than an everyday dinner. For the price, the entrées didn’t feel good enough.

Loved alot about it but still left something to be desired. The appetizers were good, the desserts were amazing, but the mains were just alright. Our server was great and took best good care of us. The atmosphere is also pretty nice. Would have loved to give it a 5, but at that price range, the main entres were not worth it.
