HOW WE GOT HERE The two of us used to giggle and pass notes in 8th grade math. After college, walkabouts, and real jobs, we met back up in Alaska and lived in a old VW van, down by the river. That’s when we decided to open a coffeehouse back in Virginia. We wanted to make a difference. People thought we were crazy. Banks thought we were crazy, but we persevered, starting with a little cart on the mall and at our beautiful city farmers market, and now here we are, 20+ years later, in the middle of a dream, roasting coffee together for people we love and playing around, still giggling like two little monkeys.

One of my faves in Charlottesville. I’ve always been productive at Mudhouse, whether it’s to read, get work done, or hangout with friends! The coffee is good but sometimes a little too much milk in the lattes, other than that, the specialty and seasonal menu is top tier. Love their maple spice latte!

We were passing through Charlottesville before our tour of Monticello and were looking for a coffee shop with a historic slice of life and charming vibe. We stopped at the right place. Our barista was a coffee connoisseur who educated us on flavor profiles. We’re not that picky, so we both had the caramel latte and got some banana bread. The only thing I would say is that it’s a little pricey, around $30 for the two of us. However, it was good coffee and a great atmosphere in a great location. We loved the warm, cozy decor and the paintings of different places. It looks like a popular place because there were consistent customers, but it never felt crowded because of the openness of the room and people getting things to go. I recommend dining in because of the chill vibe. If we’re ever passing through, we’ll probably come back.

I had the best mocha I ever had here and I’ve had a LOT of mochas! Rich, velvety, perfectly balanced.. truly next-level. If you’re a coffee person, you have to try this place. They had excellent service as well. I talked to the barista who made it and he explained the process on how they make it that consistency. I was traveling from out of state to visit my cousin at UVA, but the next time I’m in the area, I’ll definitely be back!! Highly recommend!!

I stopped by Mudhouse today and had a wonderful experience! The Golden Latte was delicious and expertly crafted. The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and unwind. Highly recommend!✨✨

I’m in love and I may literally never leave, sitting cross cross on a wooden window seat with pillows. Sigh! The barista was kind and knowledgeable, handling a long line alone with ease and grace and not turning away our pour over request.
My vanilla oatmilk latte was absolutely delicious. Top 2 in the state I’ve had so far… lip smacking delicious. The pour over was great as well!
The vibe is chill…not pretentious at all. Clientele on a Friday morning was a nice mix of all very sweet people…holding doors for one another, kiddos, people working, etc.
My only regret is that I don’t live closer to come more often!!

Their nitrocano is my favorite coffee drink I’ve ever had. It’s so foamy/smooth that you hardly even realize you’re drinking 4-6 shots of espresso (depending on the size)! It’s one of the more expensive drinks on the menu but I think it’s totally worth the price. I’ve had the nitrocano at both the downtown and Crozet locations about a dozen times each and it hits every single time.

I stopped for coffee and breakfast. I am on Keto. They don’t offer sugar free syrup for flavored coffees but do have sweeteners for regular coffees. They were very helpful in offering to serve me an egg with cheese and bacon since I can’t have other things on their menu. Very nice staff.
