Pronounced tye-pye-dong, with the meaning ‘a place to eat without the fuss’, tyepyedong noodle bar is an independent family run restaurant based on Sidwell Street in Exeter. We base ourselves on over 20 years experience in the catering industry, in-particular Chinese cuisine. At tyepyedong we have taken an approach new to Exeter, oriental fusion food – a mix of Japanese and Chinese food with other Asian influences. At tyepyedong we serve not only noodles but also a variety of rice dishes to suit everyone’s palette. With all meals cooked fresh to order, the chef would be more than happy to modify a dish to your preference with typical examples being “…but with no prawns” or “…extra spicy”.

I’ve been to Tyepyedong several times over the years, and I’m never disappointed. Recently, I ordered a delivery, and it arrived piping hot, absolutely delicious and full of flavour. My friends all ordered different dishes, and we all agreed on the same. I’m honestly not sure why anyone would describe the food as bland. We experienced quite the opposite.
You can really taste that everything is freshly made and thoughtfully prepared. The chicken soup noodles I had were especially nourishing, with a beautiful warmth from the ginger, proper comfort food, great for the soul.
I’m always keen to support small independent businesses, and I’d highly recommend this family-run restaurant. You’re getting real, freshly cooked food, not generic, freeze-dried franchise fare.

We have already been a couple of times to this restaurant and both have been great experiences. The food is very tasty and the portions are generous. We quite enjoyed the beef fried noodle for two. and soup noodle. All the meats were perfectly cooked and tender, as well as flavourful. The waiters are very attentive and they had a very nice.The price is more than reasonable for the quality of the food and the portions. One of our favourite restaurants in Exeter and we can’t wait to come back.

I had fried rice and my mum had the Yasai Donburi. Just super bland – if you like food, don’t come here. Maybe it used to be good, but these days, the restaurant isn’t very clean, the food is super boring and over prices, and there was a bunch of egg shell in my fried rice!
Very disappointed to pay so much for such boring food.

I was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations. The tempura was served with sweet and sour sauce, which was quite unusual and didn’t pair well at all. The coat is traditional British fish and chips coat rather than real tempura. The stir-fried noodles were also disappointing – mostly filled with cheap ingredients and lacked authentic flavour (too salty). Overall, I felt the food quality didn’t match the price. Quite a letdown, especially for someone familiar with authentic Asian cuisine.

Similar to other reviews, I liked the fact that the food is not too gluttonous or sweet or salty it’s fine. Just very average quite bland with no personality. Everything tastes the same. Why not create individual dishes with fresh ingredients and different flavour profiles? It’s not difficult this is easy stuff.

The food here is absolutely wonderful! Full of flavour and veggies, great for anything casual lunch or nice dinner with friends!! The staff are lovely and the food came out super fast. Portions are also massive, such a good experience!!!

I’ve been here a few times over the past 9 years and every time only because someone else wants to go, and seriously every time I get food it’s not bad but it’s just absolutely bland and I’ve tried a few different dishes :/ I just don’t get it? Why is the food so below average flavour vice… sadly I would never choose to go here by my own choice , I’d rather eat at home for free, but well seasoned food
