Food was ok, however waiting time was too long! We were told that the salmon plate would take 30 mins due to a lot of orders in advance, we said ok. But did not know that meant all the food would be served after 40 mins.

The gyu (beef) katsu was such a disappointment, the fire was served at least 5 mins before the beef, so when we heated up the meat the fire/gas ran out half way, when we tried to cook our final two pieces the fire were off. Not to mention the beef they used was probably the restructured meat so it kept falling apart. Oh and the portion was small for a $29 dish.

Ramen was ok, but just ok. It was quite buttery and with a cheese taste, kinda different from the original ramen. So maybe it’s because I prefer the traditional one more. Btw this was the first dish to be served that took around 40 mins:/

Salmon platter was the only good one. Thick cut fresh salmon. However it took more than 1 hour to be served, when initially we were told it would take 30 mins.

Overall quite disappointing. As I love Japanese food a lot and was really looking forward to it. But the quality was definitely lacking and the preparation of food was taking too long.

The cosiest Japanese dining experience we’ve ever had in Perth. The vibe is bustling but relaxed. The family that runs Mame are just so lovely and welcoming. The food is fantastic and strikingly deliciously different to any other Japanese establishment we’ve been to in recent memory. Every dish we tried was all hit, no misses. Of note, although it didn’t look as impressive as the other dishes we ordered, the chicken breast done in balsamic teriyaki (I think?) was exceptional and masterfully cooked. We still talk about it . Mame is a must-visit for tofu lovers. Trust me.
Looking forward to trying other items on the menu. Reservations essential as they filled up really quickly in the early evening.

Must-try Japanese restaurant! With delicious food and friendly service, this is one of the only places where I have had no complaints about the food.

The obanzai comes with nine side dishes, which are good for sharing I think – wouldn’t be that filling as a main meal. Each one was unique and tasty, with perfectly balanced flavours and textures.

The tofu takes 15 minutes at your table to cook and the waitress serves it to you. The broth is light, and the sauces that the tofu come with enhance the flavour majorly. The tastiness here is very unexpected, but delicious.

The karaage chicken is tender and battered perfectly, and the gyuukatsu was delicious, with also tender and tasty beef.

Overall, the food here is amazing – a little pricey, but for sure worth it.

A very good Authentic Japanese restaurant that serves some exciting dishes that help set it apart from the run of the mill Japanese restaurant.

If you like a dish that lets you try a bit of many cold appetiser style side dishes, the obanzai is a great choice. However, for us, as it’s a range of pre-prepared cold dishes, it’s better as a shared side dish. We didn’t get to try the house-made tofu as it was sold out, as was the Gyu Katsu with Hot Stone Grill.

The other dishes we tried were a very crunchy Chicken Katsu Curry with the sauce nicely placed into a separate bowl, a sizzling Yakiniku that was nice but just needed to tone down on sugar, a delicious Beef Tenerloin with Truffle Teriyaki (again a bit less sugar please), and a crispy and light Tempura with a great sauce that was a little saltier from soy sauce than the normal tempura sauce but in a good way.

Service from the seemingly all-Japanese staff is good, although at times can be a bit slow.

The vibes are super chill and there are cherry blossom decorations everywhere which really tie the place together. The food was delectable and every dish we tried was amazing and even ordered more after because it was so good. The staff was super nice and accommodating. We came later in the evening so it wasn’t too busy. Soy milk is a must try. Overall super cute shop and great food, would come again.

We had lunch here on Sunday. Really
friendly staff and the most dog friendly place we have found in Perth. They make their own soy milk and anything involving that from drinks to tofu was amazing. Everything was authentic I felt like in Japan . lots of free parking outside.we had a great time here will definitely go back to try different food.

Went to this place on a Sat evening for dinner. Place wasn’t too busy.

Food tasted good, and the prices were reasonable. My wife got a Ramen Soup. It must have been about 19 dollars and was supposed to be only available on that day. She got a Kid’s Sushi Train for my son. 15 dollars and kept him amused all evening. I got Salmon Avocado Sushi. 16.70 I think. Fish seemed very fresh – one of the better sushis I’ve had.

Parking was challenging

There are a lot of Japanese restaurants in Mount Lawley competing for your business, but Mame definitely offers something different from the standard sushi/ramen/curry rotation. The dishes feel more home style with recipes handed down generations. The service is as homely and personal as the food. The decor is humble and not going to be a backdrop for your instagram post- thankfully. If you want something that feels authentic and more unique from what you’ve eaten at a Japanese restaurant – definitely try Mame.

Best Japanese food in Perth!

I grew up in Japan and have been to many good restaurants, but I was surprised that their food was actually better than the food in Japan! Even Sashimi and Sushi were Japanese local quality!
Highly recommend for those who have been to Japan and missed the local taste!
