Sandwiches, ice-cream treats & more in an old-fashioned, family-run parlor opened in 1932.

Delightful downtown Wichita gem. Great food, cool building, and literally the friendliest waitress ever. A treat for your eyes and taste buds, the cherry vanilla coke starts you off right, and the menu is so tempting it’s hard to choose. I had a cheese crisp, very nice, my sister has a tuna melt, she loved it, and neice had a pita stuffed with hummus, it looked wonderful and she liked it very much. I highly recommend!

Definitely a staple of Wichita! Been coming here since a kid and it has been one of the best in Wichita. The homemade Coca Cola is the best drink on the menu in my opinion! I got the beef brisket sandwich for the first time, and wow it was awesome. The chili was amazing as well and the vibe in here is immaculate! Definitely recommend checking this place out when you’re in town here! You won’t be disappointed!

The restaurant was clean and has a nice atmosphere. Service was friendly and quick. I was a little irritated that the sever immediately started pushing milk shakes. I understand that I had kids with me but I wanted them thinking about lunch before desserts. The Reuben was okay, the side of potato salad was pretty bland. My daughter had the chicken salad sandwich which was very good and the winning choice out of the group. The club sandwich and ham sandwiches were also described as okay. The price for four meals was acceptable. The 4 stars is for the chicken salad, it is worth a return visit. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from trying the Old Mill Tasty Shop but I wouldn’t say it is a must try either.

The delicious smell drew me in, and I’m glad I did! I had the pastrami on rye and the beef stew, both were out of this world good. The sandwich was toasted to perfection, with a side of run of the mill potato salad. The side of beef stew was outstanding, savory but not too salty, with perfectly tender veggies and large pieces of beef. My husband got the Reuben and said it was quite good. We didn’t have room for dessert, but their root beer floats looked really good. We will definitely be back next time we stop in Wichita!

This is a really fun old fashioned soda shop. The food is excellent and the place was packed. So of course we chose the barstools. We had the crab salad sandwich, open faced. Which was so filling we couldn’t eat dessert. So next time…..dessert first!

First time there and our waiter Nathan was the best! He walked us through favorites and specials. We had the blue plate special Monterrey, the muffaletta sandwich with potato salad, carrot cake and a special cinnamon toast crisp shake. All of it was very good. The restaurant is great to still have the original soda counter and make shakes and malts and ice cream sundaes there. Nathan was great, very helpful, and seemed to know exactly what we would like. This is a Wichita gem.

The Old Mill Tasty Shop is, and has been a staple of the Wichita community since my earliest memories (like 3 years old). They have wonderful food options, but they are most famous for their malts and desserts. When you get a malt here, they literally give you the metal mixing cup with all the extra inside (great for sharing, or hogging for yourself). If you’ve never been to the Old Mill Tasty Shop, you are definitely missing out on the true Wichita experience. Give it a go! Great pricing, great food, and awesome malts/shakes! This is one of my top 10 restaurant suggestions for Wichita, Kansas!

Honestly one of my favorite spots downtown. The food is always fresh, the service feels warm and familiar, and the whole place just has this comforting, old-school vibe. Perfect for a simple, really good lunch.

Absolutely the best service we have ever had! If I could give it 10 stars I would. The best gluten free bread I have ever tasted! The food was so delicious! Can’t wait to go back!

This is such a cute little restaurant that seems to have not kept up with the times….That is a good thing! The soda fountain looked original as well as the hutch that was next to it. If you are looking for a throwback diner that remindes you of a first date back in the day, then this is a must place to visit. I had the hot pastrami on marbled rye and my wife had the open faced seafood salad. Both were really delicious.
