I’m really disappointed with my experience at 9ja Restaurant on Springfield Ave in Newark. The food was not as tasty as I expected, especially considering the reputation Nigerian food usually has for bold flavor.
What bothered me the most, though, was the customer service. The staff were unfriendly and rude, and I was completely ignored when I greeted them. In the food business, basic courtesy should be standard. It immediately made the atmosphere uncomfortable.
On top of that, the restaurant had an unpleasant smell and could really use better ventilation. Cleanliness and ambiance matter just as much as the food.
Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

Terrible food quality, terrible food presentation, everything looked dried and not taste. The native rice was just terrible. Hard. Not fresh. And red stew was flavor less.

I just got my Uber eats order and was extremely excited. Then boom I eat my food and it taste horrible and old the only thing that tasted fresh was the pounded yam a 44 dollar order down the drain smh high priced trash. This is my first and last time eating here

Food is really great.Well made African and Nigerian dishes.I tried Ofada rice and the sauce and it was fantastic.Also got a takeout the jollof rice which is always amazing.Food can be pricey but its worth every penny.

I love coming to this place every time I visit Newark, New Jersey. The food reminds me of the motherland Nigeria. I love the fact they have special soups for everyday of the week…Mon-Fri and they all taste amazing. I do recommend their Efo-Riro you can never go wrong with that meal. And their Jollof Rice is practically the best Jollof in Newark. Don’t argue with me argue with your mother oooo. Walk in savour the delicately sweet aroma..clean and organised ambience too.
However, lady at the till needs to up her calculation games & issue appropriate receipts to avoid confusion + wrong impression from some customers, who may not be patient.

My first time ordering here, my daughter and I really wanted to try the Fufu and Egusi soup. It was amazing me and my kids loved it! The Staff were very welcoming and Friendly we were greeted with warmth and Multiple smiles from various staff. I had great customer service. I will definitely be back here. The lady serving the food was very rude and lack customer service and for what ever reason, in a rush to take the customers orders. I went into this restaurant to purchase food for myself and a friend that was visiting from out of state and was embarrassed by the service that was provided. The character of the lady was extremely poor and tasteless. To the owner please train your staff and employees on how to deal with the public no matter where your customers are from. The treatment was unacceptable and becuase of this I will never patronize this restaurant again.
