to talk about the food, i don’t think i’ve had a single dish i haven’t liked thus far so i’ll just rant about my favorites here!! i love the ramen here as the broth is creamy and not salty like a lot of ramen places are; i literally drink it like water. their hot and sour noodle soup is amazing as well if you’re craving something different than your usual hearty broth. i’m not usually a dumpling person but this is the only place i get dumplings at; i especially like their chicken and corn dumplings, i don’t know how they can turn two simple sounding ingredients into such good flavor. their shanghai chowmein has a great fiery smokey soy sauce taste that beats any other shanghai cowmeins i’ve had. their dessert buns are amazing too, especially their black molten lava buns. it is the SOFTEST buns that’s ever graced my mouth and has a not-so-sweet custard filling.
all in all, 88baobao has been a pleasure for davis to have when accounting for their fast-paced and friendly service, delicious fresh foods, and its proximity to campus. as someone that graduated years before 88baobao came to davis, i wish they had opened while i was still a student.
The quality was acceptable and the service was really good. You order at the table on the ipad, and the food comes out pretty quickly.
During lunch, the wait can be long- so just keep that in mind. Parking in the plaza can be quite annoying during lunch and dinner times.
Overall, this place is not bad. I think Yan Kee is a bit higher quality and has more seating- but I think for college students, this is a nice addition in the University mall. Enjoy!
we got the wonton ramen, tonkotsu ramen, pork xiaolong bao, and crab rangoons. there’s an option to choose different spice levels for the ramen. the food was piping hot and so delicious. really filling too!
these pictures were from my first visit here but we returned earlier this week with a large party and the staff was very accommodating and let us move some tables together.
it seems to be pretty busy at night so maybe shoot for earlier in the day to avoid the wait, but I’d definitely recommend this place!
(delayed review, first visit was december 2025)
