We went here for a friend’s dinner and scheduled a reservation because we heard great things about this place. The positives are it’s a really cute restaurant, that’s nice and clean and there’s a simple elegance in the design. The service was amazing. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable and provided good insights into the dishes and how they’re prepared. We liked the different options, although the menu was very simple with three main courses or entrées. We ordered lots of foods and desserts and it was good with a nice presentation. They had a good wine and cocktail menu too. There were two downsides to our visit. 1. One member in our party has allergic reactions to shellfish and they had called ahead of time to make sure there was something that would be available and we’re told there would be. When we arrived, there was no accommodation for their order. This was frustrating as they had called earlier that day and were told they could accommodate their order. This was frustrating as they had called before and were told they could accommodate. 2. Two people in our party ordered the same pasta dish and both mention how they had stomach aches and pains in the middle of the night. I’m not sure if it was a off/bad night for the food, but three people walked away very disappointed. The others thought the food was good. Are the accommodations and food didn’t live up to expectations, everyone commented on how cute the restaurant is and how incredible the service was.

We visited here during the Restaurant Week and this place was the only one that satisfied us among the many restaurants we tried. Their “famous” pappardelle with berre blanc sauce was amazing and the cuission of the cod was superb as well. The steak was just okay but I guess they’d have better meat for dinner menu. Anyway we enjoyed the lunch and were glad we visited.

To the manager’s response: Wow, thanks for the clarification! It’s impressive how you managed to write all that without a single apology. I must’ve missed the part where waiting over an hour for food, over 30 minutes for drinks, and having one drink forgotten counts as “smooth service.” I also misunderstood the “cold appetizer,” since apparently grilled vegetables are just supposed to be cold. And when one server brought us clean plates, and another server (a guy in a suit) came shortly after and tried to take them away while the actual dirty dishes stayed on the table for hours, that’s what you call “professionalism.”

I chose this place because of the good reviews, and honestly, I feel completely duped. The service was hands-down the worst I’ve ever experienced. We sat down at 7pm and weren’t even allowed to order until 7:30. Then everything crawled to the table at a snail’s pace. We didn’t get our main dishes until 8:40pm. Absolutely unacceptable. And to top it off, they slap on a mandatory 20% service fee.

The food was mediocre at best. Tiny portions, overpriced, and one appetizer that was supposed to be hot came out cold. The main dishes taste mid and is overpriced for the quality.

But the cherry on top of this disaster was the birthday cake situation. I brought my own cake to celebrate, and they tried to charge a $6 per person fee just to put it in the fridge. Per. Person. Not per cake. Per person. Who even comes up with something that ridiculous? It screams greed, not hospitality.

This place doesn’t care about customers; it only cares about squeezing every last dollar out of you. Save your time, your money, and your patience, and go literally anywhere else.

TL;DR – Good service and ambience, nice presentation but flat/ mediocre taste, not worth the price.

It took 30 min after we finished our first appetizers before the second round was served. The smoked octopus looked very nice, but I couldn’t taste or smell the aroma from grilled protein, which was a let down.

Seafood quality was doubtful, it tasted like the scallops were “aged”, which brought out the umami, but the sweetness was all gone.

Overall seasoning was flat, nothing recommendable.

What a pleasure. We were greeted at the door by what we found out was the owner, Sam Takahashi. We are from Los Angeles and frequent restaurants in New York City and Paris often. The dinner was interesting, inventive and delicious. The foie gras was astounding and the bass and the scallops were as good as we’ve ever had. We had the apple cake for dessert, a true Austrian/German delight. Washington State wines leave something to be desired, I would have preferred more French, Napa or Paso Robles influence. Our GSM was tolerable, but not noteworthy. Waiter Hunter was great . Overall a lovely experience. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations for Seattle . If we lived here, we would be back frequently

Really just a “meh” experience. We had such high hopes based on all the great reviews. Sadly nothing stood out, and the experience really missed the mark.

We ordered the beef tartar and it was very salty and tasted like it was smothered in mayo. Very heavy tasting. We also ordered the churros which were just okay. The steak was under seasoned and the veggie on the side was very oily and bitter tasting. My pappardelle pasta was good but had the tiniest amount of crab, it was almost laughable for the price. Service was good, but I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

0.5/5 Stars – $120+ / person for incompetence wrapped in “fine dining” pretense. Skip 84 Yesler unless you enjoy lighting money on fire while starving.

We brought a 4-inch birthday cake for our party of six. Their “storage fee”? $6 per person – $36 to refrigerate a cake smaller than a dinner plate. This predatory pricing set the tone for the evening’s exploitation.

Service: the service here was a masterclass in neglect. Our waitress took drink orders 20 minutes after five of us arrived (one friend in traffic). Everyone’s wine appeared 20 minutes after the order was placed. My sparkling water? Vanished into the void. When our sixth guest arrived 25 minutes after our reservation time, her non-alcoholic drink was served in 10 minutes. Mine remained forgotten.

We sat for nearly an hour before anyone took our food order – not because we were slow, but because the skeleton crew couldn’t manage basic table coverage. It was impossible to make eye contact with our waitress as she spun frantically across the dining room. When I finally ordered food, I had to remind them about my sparkling water.

Another 30-40 minutes crawled by before four small appetizers and six entrees emerged. The pacing was so chaotic that a server tried removing our clean plates meant for entrees, mistaking our abandoned table for one already finished. He left our actual dirty appetizer plates behind…

Food: Cold, greasy, and confusing. The house-made focaccia bread was an oil slick. The seasonal vegetable plate arrived room temperature – clearly dying under non-existent heat lamps in their visible open kitchen (I watched plates languish on the counter for ages, when I was forced to spend forever waiting for my own food). When we flagged this, our server insisted it was “supposed to be room temperature,” then immediately took it back to reheat it. Pick a story.

My sea bass wore dark pools of aggressively sour sauce that obliterated the miso seasoning – fusion cuisine as friendly fire.

The only efficiency is when they served our bill. The check almost showed up instantly, complete with mandatory 20% gratuity. Of course, why rush service when the tip is guaranteed?

We paid $120+ each to leave hungry, frustrated, and certain this restaurant has neither standards for its food nor respect for its clearly overworked staff. If you’re charging fine-dining prices, deliver fine-dining execution – or at minimum, remember the water.

Absolutely loved our experience at 84 Yesler! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The food was outstanding, each dish beautifully prepared and full of flavor. What really sets this place apart, though, is the ambiance. It’s warm, stylish, and completely unique easily one of the best dining atmospheres in the city. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!

Such an amazing experience!
We loved – the open kitchen, that there aren’t many tables and they are spaced out, how cool the bathroom is, the service, the food, the drinks.
We didn’t love – that we were done with our meal

84 Yesler really know how to make eating an enjoyable experience.
Awesome food with a menu that actually feels seasonal. We’ll definitely come back.

Oh, lordy, lordy, how have I been coming out to Seattle for the last 15 years and not known about this place? It was an utterly sublime gustatory experience. My husband and daughter and I shared the ceviche appetizer with coconut cream and chive oil – dear lord, it was delicate and savory and I could have made a meal of it by itself. My daughter and I both had the papardelle with lemon butter sauce and Dungeness crab – we both simply devoured it. My husband will tell you how much I despise tarragon, but this sauce was light and creamy and the tarragon was perfect. The homemade pasta enclosed herbs between each strand and was beautifully al dente. My husband had the salmon and cleaned his plate as well. Service was top notch – attentive and well-paced. Cocktails were divine. I most certainly will return!
Update: went again 04/06/2023 and it was just as amazing as our first visit. Go, you will *not* regret it! Update 2: ate here again 08/06/2025. We’ve never been disappointed with any meal here!
