If I lived in OIB, 59 Causeway is where I would hang out. I wouldn’t leave until the place closed. They would be so sick of me. In the morning, they serve delicious bagels and the best coffee in town. My wife doesn’t even like bagels, and she ate 59 Causeway’s bagels two mornings in a row. At some point during the day, the bar opens and there’s booze! Is this heaven? Maybe. I don’t know how the afterlife works. The atmosphere is laid back and the staff is friendly without being creepy please-leave-a-good-tip friendly. There are great views of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and a nice patio deck. 59 Causeway is one of my favorite places in OIB. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

First timers here. Walked in, stood at the door uncertain if you get seated or how they operate. After standing a while a customer at one of the tables said to go around the corner and order at the counter. No signs/directions on how this establishment works; confusing. Their menu offers cinnamon rolls and at 10am they didnt have any. I ordered a latte, came out a cappuccino and very heavy espresso. Only a very small choice of bagels. Bagels very dry, scrambled eggs wet and mediocre. Not a fan.

5 stars all the way around. Staff was super sweet and accommodating. The Flower Bouquet Latte was the best latte I’ve ever had Bagel sandwiches are super yummy as well. I will definitely be back.

Stopped in and grabbed brunch on our way out of Ocean Isle. Had a mexican breakfast bowl with eggs, hash browns, sausage, cheese, jalepenos, salsa, etc. It was so good! Just wish the inside seating area was a little bigger with more tables but still has amazing food and drinks!

Update June 2025. I’m now hooked on their jalapeno bagels with bacon and scallion schmear. The jalapenos have a little heat (not much, but enough to taste and enjoy). Their drip coffee is pretty good, but their espresso is pretty bitter. I enjoy espresso that is strong and flavorful, but smooth. Theirs is not.

Everyone’s taste palate is different, and I’m sure it’s hard to please everyone – I was hoping for a lot more kick – I could see the pieces of jalapeno in the spread, but I didn’t detect any heat. I enjoy hot and spicy and was hoping for at least a little warmth. Nonetheless, the everything bagel was still very good!

I paid $11 for two toasted bagels with specialty cream cheeses and received two room temperature bagels that truly taste like they were made a week ago with minimal plain cream cheese.

I ordered a Simple Latte and my husband had a Creamy Chocolate. My husband, unfortunately, had been spoiled by Ediya Cafe in South Korea so his comment was “it’s decent but no Ediya”. Alas I too have been spoiled by South Korea but definitely was a better latte than some other mom and pop shops I’ve been to since moving to NC for 3 years. Definitely will be back when in the area.

Our first trip to OIB began with a visit to 59 Causeway Bagels and Coffee. Everything was great. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak on a sun-dried tomato bagel. My husband had the “scrap heap” (Bacon, sausage and country ham) on a jalepeño bagel . The bagel sandwiches were served hot and the fancy coffee was beautiful and delicious. We ate on the deck and enjoyed the waterfront views. We will be back… regularly I hope.

Really friendly and wonderful place. Service was kind, attentive, friendly, and efficient. Coffee bar was especially nice! Highly recommend their specialties – I got the winter bouquet but not sure how long that will be on the menu. Bagels were flavorful and soft/fresh. Looooooove the jalapeño bagel.

The bagels are delicious and are comparable to those found in areas more known for their bagels such as NYC and the greater tristate area.

Really appreciate them playing some oldies. Most restaurants these days cop out and play top 40.
