We really enjoyed stopping here—it’s the kind of place that invites you to stretch your legs, soak in some local history, and just take a break from the road. The recreated town is charming and full of interesting details about the Dakotas. Kids (and adults!) will love the vintage train diner—it’s a fun and nostalgic experience.

Now, about the food… let’s just say it’s more about the novelty than the flavor. The pulled pork was decent, but the burger was dry and tasted like it came straight from a microwave, and the gravy had that unmistakable packaged flavor. If you’re looking for a gourmet meal, this might not be the place—but if you’re here for the atmosphere, the friendly people, and a fun roadside memory, it’s absolutely worth the stop.

Fun little place to stop for a small bite. Cafeteria style food. More known for breakfast that we were too late for. Burger was okay. Roast Beef Sandwich was super fresh and the Chicken Noodle Soup was really good.

My buddy and I came here in late July for the nostalgic fun of visiting a retired train-turned-restaurant and 1880 Town. Nostalgia-wise it is indeed fun to visit but don’t expect the restaurant to serve gourmet meals. My breakfast burrito was served in its commercial packaging and had been microwaved. My friend’s meal had certainly not been freshly cooked; prepped well in advance and thrown together upon ordering. Maybe we just didn’t order the right things? But how were we to know? This was not much different than visiting your local 7-11. The server seemed annoyed and bored out of his/her mind. Visit for the fun but don’t expect much for the meal.

Not a bad little truck stop at all! Great spot to take your 10 but not a 34/hr rest. No showers. The lot is all dirt & small gravel, but kept up and clean with no pot holes. This place has a nice welcoming feeling. I’m going to add this place to my list of truck stop stops to take a 10. Cell phone service is good as well.

The food was excellent. I got scrambled eggs, hash brown casserole and biscuits, and gravy. It was excellent. It was also fun to eat on a train. They have truck parking across the street. You can eat on the train without needing to enter the museum.

Grab a bag of chips and a soda and perhaps one of the cold sandwiches. Skip the hot food. I have had a better burger out of the cooler in a dingy gas station reheated in a community microwave. The burger Patty was institutional grade. I don’t mean to knock the place. It was nice to go sit down in the old train. Just don’t expect quality food.

Horrible food. My daughter’s hotdog was brown, dry and cold on a dry bun. I asked the waitress to warm it up and she looked at me like I shot her dog. Our cheese burgers were soggy and inedible. Left there feeling like I might have food poisoning tomorrow morning. Do yourselves a favor and hold off for something better.

We ate inside and the food was pretty good but the peach cobbler was slimy and very wet, it looked like it was sitting for a while but overall it was good and I’d go back just not getting any desserts.
