Reviews
I’ve been a customer of Ed & Murphys since I moved to Merrimack about 3 years ago. They’ve always been one of my favorites and I highly recommended them to anyone who asked. Staff was consistently friendly and thankful every time I ordered. I unfortunately had no knowledge of them being under new ownership. So last night when I went to order my usual pizza from them, I was confused when I opened up the website and couldn’t log into my loyalty account. I assumed maybe they did the website over. I proceeded to order my usual, large stuffed crust chicken, bacon, ranch pizza, side of fries, and the garlic butter dipping sauce (which I could no longer find on the menu), so I ended up ordering the sweet chili sauce instead.
I put the order in at 7:20 pm and entered a 20% tip for delivery. The estimated delivery time was 8:15 to 8:30. Sure, it’s Friday night, I get that delivery may take a while. When I got my order confirmation email, it came from Basha Grill and I was confused as to why it wasn’t from Ed and Murphys. At 8:45-8:50, I started to get concerned because according to the online “track my order ” , it wasn’t even on the road yet and the place closed at 9pm. My fiancé called them, and was told the delivery person was making another trip as well but it was on the way. At 8:53, my doorbell rang. My fiancé answers the door to greet him, and he starts out by saying “ok, because I’m a nice guy, coming all the way here from Derry, NH. How can you order from here sir?” My fiancé responds “Why do we order from there? We love that place! We love the pizza.” He responded “No chief, no chief, no. My boss told me don’t do it, but I already had it so I took it but it’s too far man. Derry, NH man! I’ve been driving almost 20 minutes to get here for your food!” At this point, he’s actually raising his voice at my fiancé, so I joined him at the door. I said “don’t worry. I won’t order from you again!”
I was SHOOK. I was so confused. I have NEVER in my life heard of anyone complain about getting business from a customer. I was fuming! I immediately called the restaurant back and asked if they were located in Londonderry, NH and he responded yes. Then I explained the situation and he said “I’ll talk to my manager “. No apology, no “I’m sorry that happened”, no explanation at all for why this guy was coming from Derry when this place is located in Londonderry. I even looked up the Basha Grill, which is in Manchester located about 15 minutes from my house. The original Ed and Murphys is about 10 minutes from my house. If he was coming from another delivery in Derry, that’s not the customer’s fault! If your location changed, just EXPLAIN that to me, rather than being completely rude at my doorstep and making us feel like WE did something wrong.
In addition to that, the stuffed crust of the pizza was completely hollow, and the sweet chili dipping sauce came as a cup of sandwich hots you’d order on an Italian sub. I highly suggest 501 Pizza adjusts their delivery radius online so this doesn’t happen to another poor soul and if you live in Merrimack, don’t bother ordering delivery from this place unless you want to face the attitude of the “nice guy” who delivers it. Regardless of how the food tasted, I couldn’t even enjoy it because I was so upset about this interaction and I will NEVER be ordering from them, or “Basha Grill”, again. If 501 Pizza wants to dispute this, the whole thing was caught on my ring doorbell footage.
Seriously, if you haven’t been to 501 Pizza in the past couple months since the new owners took over, you are missing out. This is now my go-to spot, and they earned it with two things that absolutely blew me away.
First up, the pizza. It’s the stone oven, and whatever they’re doing with the dough, it’s magic. Hands down, this is the best pizza I’ve had. Period. The crust has that amazing puff and char, and it tastes fresh, not like some frozen disc. It’s the kind of pizza you crave the next day.
But here is the real shocker: their chicken fingers. I know, I know—we’re in Southern New Hampshire, and we have serious, world-class chicken tenders around here. I was not expecting much from a pizza place, but these are better than all of them. Seriously, they are the best chicken fingers in the area. They nailed the breading, and the chicken is juicy and cooked perfectly. It’s a huge, pleasant surprise.
The pizza was nice and crispy and holds very well, no sloppiness, very flavourful.
Will definitely come back to try their Gyro pizza
Bottom of pizza crust was black and crisp. Also ordered a hamburger plate and got a cheeseburger club sandwich for someone who doesn’t like cheese.
