Heard much about this place but was in Hyde Park (as opposed to their Pilsen site) area so made a stop to try assorted tacos.
Their starndard tacos has cilantro, julienned radishes and other garnishes. Their special tacos can pretty much add anything.
Their al pastor had that zesty pineapple with the spiced meat. And their carne asada was tender and had a really great chew on the charred meat.
Really enjoyed them both and also the pan cooked shrimp. It was plump and good bite and seasoned well.
Was not expecting porkbelly to be minced like it was in this taco. Usually, I prefer tender slim strips of crispy porkbelly in my taco. It was still a very well seasoned taco but a bit too overfilled with black beans. Not sure I would order this again.
Overall, very good tacos and the place is very well lit and the ambiance is inviting. Staff was friendly and work hard to accommodate their patrons.

My wife and I are often in the Hyde Park area, and we finally decided to stop into 5 Rabanitos for lunch — and we’re glad we did! The menu has a great selection of authentic Mexican dishes, and everything we ordered tasted fresh and flavorful.
Even though the restaurant wasn’t very crowded when we visited, it did take a little while to be serviced, which makes me think wait times could be longer if it’s busy. That said, the staff were friendly and welcoming once we were helped, and the overall experience was enjoyable.
Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood and craving authentic Mexican food!

Everything was wonderful! Let’s start off with the service. I wasn’t very familiar with the different types of sauces and they offered me a sample of each to try in order to help me to decide which sauce to select for my meal. Everything came out fast, and the staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and efficient. NOEL AND JOVANA were SUPERB! They showed us pictures of everything and explained all of the options and we really enjoyed the food. It was very good. Everything was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, but not over seasoned, but still light. We live in the neighborhood and will definitely come back again. Everything was fantastic!

so excited to have good mexican food in hyde park. went in the middle of the afternoon on sunday and the place was packed! our server was very friendly & attentive despite it being so busy. i tried the street elotitos, chips y salsa, al pastor taco, carne asada taco, beef barbacoa taco, and flan. everything was pretty decent, but i thought the tacos were amazing. super flavorful and delicious. would probably skip the apps next time and just order more tacos

Had the greatest time here with my boyfriend. We both agreed that this is easily the best Mexican restaurant in Hyde Park. We got an appetizer, entrees, dessert, and drinks, and all were delicious. Despite being totally packed, we got three courses in under 90 minutes. Also, the best tortillas I’ve ever had!

Excellent addition to the Hyde Park restaurant scene! The original 5 Rabanitos is in Pilsen and this one has all the positives of that location! Their Cochinita Pibil is the best this side of the Yucutan Peninsula, their torta de Barbacoa was excellent, and their Mexican street corn was delicious! Best Mexican restaurant in Chicago!

Everything from the moment we walked in was wonderful! Seated right away and helped with clearing a spot at the table for a high chair. Our waitress was so friendly and offered to help us with any substitutions to our dinners. The food was hot, fresh, and SO delicious; I was sad that we were too full to finish!

This place is a gem. I ordered chicken rabanitos style. Ana and Norma are both lovely. They have an entire vegetarian menu. The coffee is the most scrumptious coffee. Everything is made with love.
