They say you should never meet your idols; maybe the same can be said for your favorite restaurants from decades ago.

411 West was one of my favorite restaurants during my undergrad and dental school days in Chapel Hill from 1990 -1998. I thought it was really fine dining (and maybe it was). When we arrived at the Carolina Inn for our daughter’s orientation, I was pleasantly surprised to learn it’s still open and suggested it for dinner.

We were moderately disappointed by the food, although I thoroughly enjoyed their Peach & Prosciutto Pizza. That was by far the best entree, and the Crème Brûlée was very good as well. The Wood-Grilled Tenderloin was perfectly cooked but over-charred on one side and quite under-seasoned. It needed a fair amount of salt & pepper. My wife’s Wood-Grilled Salmon was similarly under-seasoned, even though it was also cooked to the perfect tenderness. She did enjoy the mashed potatoes.

Service, location, and atmosphere were great, but most of the food didn’t have much flavor.

Cute little gem. The food was good and our waitress was nice. I wish the food was hotter but other than that, the vibes were great, the food and drinks were great.

Chapel Hill classic this place has been here my whole life, and it’s been good the whole time. Really delicious desserts, too.

We enjoyed another terrific evening at 411 West. We like the cheerful environment. The interior is tastefully appointed and spacious. It is filled with guests every time we dine and is quiet enough for conversation.

Tonight, we were served by Caroline, who was warm and genuine. She patiently assisted us in selecting our three course dinners. I also had the pleasure of meeting legendary bartender Trae on the advice of a mutual friend.

411 West has good vibes and is one of my favorite places to dine.

Downtown Chapel Hill Italian style cafe with a decent wine list and a good food menu. Food was very good and worth having again albeit the typical dishes you’d expect from an American Italian place. Service was great!

An absolute gem — 411 West is out of this world!

This restaurant delivers everything you could dream of in an Italian dining experience — gourmet, homemade pastas, fresh and beautiful salads, and a warm, cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. Every dish is crafted with such care and flavor that you can taste the passion behind it.

I’m especially proud that my cousin is the manager and lead chef here — his dedication to quality and creativity shines through every plate that comes out of the kitchen. Truly one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to. A must-visit if you’re anywhere near the area! ✨

I loved this place. We made a reservation the same day (Friday at 7:30) I liked the atmosphere and our waiter was kind and nice. They give you some hot rolls to start, which I love because most restaurants here never give anything like that for free and I consider it a logical thing to do. We ordered meatballs with mozzarella as a starter (the portion is big and delicious) then pasta with scallops and shrimp and grilled salmon, and I can say it was the best salmon I’ve ever tasted! To drink IPA beer and basil gin! (Very well served) unfortunately we had no more room for dessert but we ordered a “carajillo”, the waiter mentioned that they had no licor 43 and came to our table accompanied by the bar man who prepared us a drink that was close to the carajillo, different taste but really good. I highly recommend eating here, everything is perfect! Despite the demand for parking, we found a parking space across the street and the parking is only open from 6am to 8pm after is free

An outstanding meal in the sunroom adjacent to the main restaurant. Lovely appetizers of grilled Brussels sprouts, bacon wrapped shrimp (which were almost finished before I could catch them on camera). Several lovely main courses: wood grilled salmon, beef tenderloin, shrimp pasta, and fresh basil pesto pasta. The sunroom did get a little chilly when the sun went down, which is the only criticism I have.

What can I say about this cafe? The location is great, the food is good, and the service is OK.

Our first time being here, but I was expecting a warmer greeting at the door. Maybe a little more “Amore”, and less “Impersonale”, this would help make a lasting first impression.

I would highly recommend that this cafe train their staff on the true definition of scallops and not tell any vegetarian that scallops are onions, that advice doesn’t bid well for specific dietary restrictions.

Unfortunately, Gnocchi is only a starter, so order 2 or move on to an actual entree. The lasagna is large and in charge and will fill you up, but unfortunately, unlike an authentic Italian restaurant, there will be no bread to soak up the sauce.

An espresso and vanilla creme brulee here are definitely a safe bet.
Cheers!

Subpar food experience. Waitress was pleasant and friendly but never kept us filled with refills and other needs. Really needs to update and expand their menu. It was an odd evening but enjoyable with family. Food SAS the biggest disappointment, while not bad, just outdated and what ee did order was bland and tasteless. Definitely could use refreshing menu change.
