Best indian food i ever had in lexington – Reddit
Reviews
I absolutely love Indian cuisine, I have tried it from many locations around the US and elsewhere (though sadly I have not made it to India yet). I have never been as disappointed in a restaurant as this on.
I experienced many problems there, from the 2 person staff failing to provide adequate service, the environment of the restaurant down to clearly unused cleaning supplies lining the bathroom floor (probably due to being understaffed), and more, but a great deal of this could be overlooked or blamed on me in some way or another.
The key problem, and the reason for a 1 star review was the food. Their menu was diverse enough, offering a few items from each variety of cuisine. This seemed to be fine, so we ordered. We ordered Vegetable Pakora, Chana Masala, Naan, a Shrimp Masala, and Lamb Curry. We each ordered a spiciness level to our own taste, myself ordering my Chana Masala as hot as they could make it, especially after I asked if they used ghost peppers, to be answered that they only have Habeneros. The vegetable pakora arrived first. It was minuscule and laden with grease. The fresh flavors were fried out of it and all I could taste was oil with a hint of destroyed cilantro. Their chutney was almost like water, completely flavorless and fluid. By the time our food came (over an hour) the chana masala was mild, INCREDIBLY mild. I sampled the other dishes we ordered. It was as if our order was completely wrong. The Shrimp was without any sauce (despite the description in the menu mentioning a masala sauce) and it was by far the spiciest despite the person who ordered it asking for it to be very mild. That said, the shrimp was still mild by even American standards. The Lamb curry was lightly spiced and bland. My Chana masala was so incredibly mild and bland in flavor that I did not even eat it and proceeded to throw it away (after boxing it to take it home, I was not rude). The Naan was so under-cooked the center was still raw dough, this was also disposed of in a trash can.
All in all, we were able to eat the shrimp, which was nothing like it was described, and the lamb curry, which was nothing special. For the 3 of us to eat, it was over $55, (over 60 after tip).
There is no reason to go here for the following reasons:
They are understaffed and it shows in service time.
They are overpriced.
Their food tastes like an American and an Indian chef fought over flavors, no one won.
The place is disgusting if you look beyond the table you are sat at.
As a side note. When I complained about the naan being not fully cooked, I was returned with a statement that really sums up the experience. “I’m sorry about that,” the waitress said, “but I do not know how to give a refund”. I did not ask for a refund for the record, and I told her not to give me one. There was a sign on the door asking us to write a review on google, and so I am.
And on top of that, they have dirty bathrooms which are clogged at 12pm with cockroaches in the bathroom.
